The return of the highly anticipated 2023 Woodbridge XC Invite, behind the scenes with Newbury Park Cross Country team!!my instagram | https://www.instagram....
Mind over muscles to give us this collective poetry in motion.Nothing like a night race against the best in the nation to find what you're made of!135MM F1.8...
But think about it; this event drew all the fastest cross-country athletes in the West-Southwest (including Texas), which may be inclusive of the fastest in the nation. That is sort of a big deal for high school running, no?
Menlo first got short changed by running a long course on Friday, but they did their best and had a good showing. Now to make it worse, their results have been washed from history. If you go the Woodbridge site for the official results, their race 21 has the wrong race results. And all of this feeds into the database of other sites. If you go athletic.net, it says Landon Pretre didn't race at Woodbridge this year. And Hauser did, but it says he ran 17:17 instead of 15:04.
This isn't the only problem with the official results. They have a few ghost runners that mess up the team standing as well. This is one area they could definitely do better.

Buchanan boys team took 18th in the sweepstakes race at Woodbridge, but they bring all of their 1-5 guys back next year. 3 juniors and 2 sophomores. It will help them if they find a front runner though. Also 3 freshmen in the Blue Varsity B race, and 2 more sophs not in sweepstakes who went sub-15:55. They return so much depth. This team is on the road to accomplishing what the girls team has accomplished.
Martin Luther King took 16th and return their 1-6.
Regarding Woodbridge times disappearing on the Woodbridge site and Athletic dot net. They seem to be doing some quality control on results for selected races (see above email that was posted here previously). The two guys who went sub 15 on Friday night - Landon Pretre and Malcolm Oakes - are among those affected. Based on that email, these runners should be back in the results when they finish this cleanup.
Dear Coach(s), On behalf of the Woodbridge High School and the Northwood High School Nations, we want to thank all of you for choosing to attend our meet this past weekend. We sincerely hope that the athletes, their families and you enjoyed the event and came away with a positive experience! We like to address a couple of issues with the event that we area addressing: 1. First to our friends in the White division: For who-knows reasons, many of the chips in the White division were somehow not encoded correctly or damaged. So, in many cases (about 30 %), the runner would cross the finish line, his bib would be read and then the next numerical bib number would also be recorded. So, one runner would have 2 bibs assigned. In other words, if I wore bib # 12545, I would have 12545 and 12546 recorded for my finish. We tried to clean up as much of this as we could during the meet, but we did not catch all of them and at times we chose the wrong bib number to delete! We're going through the video of the finishes to clean this up. I suspect it would take us this week to finish the process. We're asking for your patience. 2. To our Friday friends (Red and White), we all know that there is no such thing as an accurate XC course due to the variety of surfaces the race is run on and there does not exist an instrument that deals with the issues each type of surface presents (bumps, grass, dirt, etc.). So, being consistent from year to year is the best we can anyone can do. We use the same Garmin watch to measure our courses over the years. The latest Garmin was purchased 3 years ago and we have used it for the 2021 meet at Sivlerlakes and the 2022 meet at the Great Park. The detecting system of satellites we use is the GPS and Glonass. The time of detection is set to 1 second. The procedure we use includes calibrating the Garmin using official UST&F certified road courses. We calibrated the watch using two of these courses (GG and Orange). Apparently, when the watch battery charge ran out and we recharged it, these settings were changed back to the factory defaults (unknown to us as this has not occur in the past). Consequently, our course ended up significantly longer than it should have been. When we remeasured the course on Saturday, we determined that the course was actually 3.06 miles. We understand how deflating this is to your runner but the only recourse we have is to apologize to everyone. Our meet next year will be on September 20th and 21st (tenth week prior to the CA. State Championships Meet as always). Hope to see all of you back at our meet. Team registrations will be open () on January 1, 2024! Enjoy and good luck with the rest of the season

That's good to know. It's taking longer than I expected, but for now I will assume they will get it right eventually. What bothers me even more about this though, is that it implies that they think the race result inaccuracies we limited to the white division. Both both their signature boys rated and sweepstakes races had ghost runners as well, resulting in incorrect team scores. I sure hope they fix all the results.
Exactly. Ghost runners in sweeps and rated. Double runners, etc. One of our athletes is missing and they are listing a time 20 seconds slower in the wrong race that the athlete didn’t even run.

I'm curious... Were they hanging out around the finish line wearing their bib number during this other race?

Some of those teams in the Rated and Sweepstakes races had runners in the White Division the day before, so maybe their whole packet of chips was bad.
The scoring is a mess. We have an athlete who did not run and now has a time on Athletic dot net and not even in the correct race the athlete would have run in had the athlete run.

They are in the process of fixing it, but they said they will need a few more days to get it all fixed.
