Top 5 non-team qualifiers go to state regardless of if they place top 15 at district. Should make for a field of 130 runners at state in 2a-4a
Taking a look at 4A boys last year:
Council Bluffs Number of Individual Qualifiers in 2022: 3 Places of other qualifiers under new rule: 16,18
Dubuque Number of Individual Qualifiers in 2022: 5
Indianola Number of Individual Qualifiers in 2022: 2 Places of other qualifiers under new rule: 16,17,20 * Ames would have qualified 5 individuals last year under this format
Marshalltown Number of Individual Qualifiers in 2022: 4 Places of other qualifiers under new rule: 18
Bettendorf Number of Individual Qualifiers in 2022: 3 Places of other qualifiers under new rule: 18,19
NEW for 2023: Minimum of 5 individual state qualifiers advance from each SQM site if current 15 in 2A-4A (10 in 1A) are taken by team state qualifiers.
Maybe but 1600 on a track isn't the best indication of XC success. We had a kid finish top 10 a few years ago in XC running 15:55 who only had 4:40/9:45 PRs. Had a kid about 10 years ago who ran 1:53/4:20 who wasn't good at XC.

This is what i said after you posted the time trail, I said a lot better indicator would be a 2 mile time trail on an xc course. Mile on track is not good indicator
These times aren’t good enough for Dowling to make NXN out of the Heartland region.
Wayzata returns 4 sub-4:30 guys plus another sub-16 guy.
Stevens Point returns 4:15, 4:18, 4:27, 4:27, and another 9:27 3200 guy.
Wayzata and Stevens Point boys teams will qualify for NXN just like last year
This is more than good enough. These are results from an early season time trial that was likely run in very warm conditions. All of those athletes are probably close to 10 seconds faster in peak shape on a cool day with competition.
I asked and said that I am guessing. Funny that you say it is false but go onto say a "probably" percentage with no facts to back it up.
Merely providing some additional context. It can be both false and probably 80%+. Those two ideas are not mutually exclusive. Regardless, it isn't 50%, and it isn't particularly close to that guess either.
Curious as to why you have Linn Mar at 13, they lose 4 of their top 6 on a team 30 points behind Bettendorf at Districts. Are they gaining transfers / stud 8th graders?
3 weeks late on the reply, but basically they had some kids seemingly improve a lot during track. They had a pair of sophomores run 4:35/4:36, a junior run 4:37/10:00, and another junior (Kuhn) qualify for state with a 9:45. They have another 2-3 who could turn into serviceable #5 guys either because they ran mid-17s last year or were decent as freshman. So I’m not guessing they’re gonna set the world on fire, but I can see how they’d compete favorably with the IC schools, Prairie, Bettendorf etc. for a qualifying spot out of the comparatively weak east side of the state.
*If Aldamak is running varsity for CF, that bumps them to a strong #2 for me and probably takes Ames out of the state meet altogether

Seems Aldamak is transferring and will surely be on varsity.
