She ran the first 1600 in about 5:00, but couldn't keep that pace up.
Leachman also went out in about 5:00 in her national record race, but she was able to keep that pace for another 3200 and then she picked up the pace. Just goes to show how far Leachman is ahead of the other high school girls in the 5k.
Shea has had a tough year whether due to injury or whatever, clearly not what she achieved in prior years. She used to run a lot of races, hopefully that is not what took its toll. Hopefully she gets through this and has future success. Some think Leachman is racing too much.

She has been Tresslered? Bye
well, Margot Appleton seems to have done well in college.

But lots of Appleton's development has come ON a college team. And that's exactly what Shea won't have if she somehow continues with Tressler instead of an NCAA program. Also, I think Shea's HS career with Tressler/EE has been more intense (and I'd say idiosyncratic) than Appleton's.
Would be nice if her and Zealand (U20 teammate so already familiar) teamed up at Liberty. I don't think it would happen but maybe since they were in somewhat similar situations in high school (Zealand being homeschooled and Shea only running club), it could be nice for them to have one another and Zealand's mom as coach. Her sister goes to Smith College though so I could see her going there despite it being D3.

I think not. Shea gives every impression of being a typically secular, liberal Massachusetts gal (has pronouns in her IG bio, for instance), and Liberty is perhaps THE school of the Christian right, so ... wouldn't work.
