A lot of posts on here have been reported as "factually incorrect" but we have not deleted them as we don't follow the CA HS scene and don't know what is factually incorrect. If you want to email us about something you know to be factually incorrect, please do so at letsrun@letsrun.com.
I guess everyone is just anxious cause Great Oak (soles) and Newbury park are gone and we are just hoping the top Cali team is as good this year as the past years
I seriously get offended by lazy reporting that simply tries to dump spreadsheet results without any thinking before or after the data dump. This LAZY Milesplit article simply looked for 5K results from last season, thus rendering the list completely meaningless. The reporter didn't bother trying to convert existing 3-mile results or looking for more recent data.
Hence, a known-name like Granada was not on the list of the top 100??? I am sure many big names are also missing. A simple search on XCstats (as linked above) would have shown their recent time-trials, with 3 runners at the 15 min mark for 3-miles.
I think MileSplit will be ignored pretty soon. Just a photo album is all that is left...
Seems like prepcaltrack.com provides better content than CA milesplit now
They have always provided better rankings, but Rich often concentrated on the SS and deferred to Mileplit for State rankings in the past. Looking at D1 and D2, his rankings match almost exactly mine. The only slight differences can be explained by the fact that PCT weighs XC results heavier, while I equal weight 3200m times in track, and also allow for 1600m to further weight the results. Rich is often more in the loop on transfers, incoming impact freshman and injuries, so his rankings are the ones I refer to the most. And in particular, early in the season some very good teams look weak scoring wise, but he knows which teams are holding out runners for a late peak or minor injuries. So his early season rankings are better than judging purely by results.
Buchanan CA girls results Torosisn - 10 - 10:54 Buckley - 10 - 10:59 M Sundgren - 9 - 11:09 Burgess - 12 - 11:14 Hutchison - 11 - 11:22 Sesock - 12 - 11:22 This team was missing Lomelli and Cornett There is also another Buckley girl who ran a 11:09 in the middle school race. If she will be in 9th grade in fall 2024, this team will be very dangerous that year on a national scale.
Looks like per usual the underclassmen at Buchanan over train and dominate. Let me know their stats when they are juniors and seniors.
That’s kind of what happens to most girls in general, not just at Buchanan
Matilda Torres has a good chance of going to NXN next year (in 2024), and an even better chance the year after that. They have a really good freshman-sophomore class so they will continue to improve.
The teams with the best chances of making NXN this year (Ventura, Dana Hills, San Clemente, Trabuco Hills, and Great Oak) are all very senior-heavy so there will be room for other teams to challenge for an NXN spot next year

If all your Freshman and Sophomores are beating all of your upperclassmen you should probably look into your training program.
Well that was kind of my point. The training there is the problem…by the time the girls there are upperclassmen they are burned out. In come the tiny fresh frosh/Soph girls who have been running/training with the HS team since 7th grade and they have an amazing 2 years and then hit junior year and go backwards. It gets even worse when they move on to college. Because of the training! full high school miles and workouts since 7th grade so that’s why I said per usual. It is literally the training.

And I was sort of agreeing with you. I wouldn’t say “most girls” but maybe “most girls at certain programs”
West Ranch will be a team to watch for the next few years. This team has 3 really good sophomores (all of them should be varsity) and also this is the school where Aaron Cantu’s brother Adrian is going to, not Newbury Park.
Seems like every time there is a good girls or boys team that has won a lot recently, there are people on here that want to talk trash on them or try to spread rumors about them. Recently we’ve seen schools like Great Oak and Newbury Park being hated for various reasons, but probably mostly due to the fact that they won a lot and some people were jealous or envious. The new flavor of the month for you seems to be Buchanan. You claim that their underclassmen are always better than upperclassmen and that all their girls get slower, yet a quick search of a handful of their recent star graduates show their freshman 5k times to be between 30 seconds and a minute slower than their senior 5k times. All schools probably have several seniors over the years that didn’t improve from a younger age including Buchanan, but unless you are willing to say who you are and how you think you know exactly what goes on with this team or any of the others that people like to hate on, then your rumors are hard to believe.
Great Oaks dominance is just nuts… I know they still have a lot of people at their school but still the fact that every year they just roll through woodward is nuts.
Newbury Park will be gone off the map this year. I’ve heard rumors about some drama with athletes leaving. I know Tiffany Sax transferred. Anyone know who else?

Well you did extensive research of “recent star graduates” so post that information so we can see just how wrong we are. If you aren’t willing to do that and say who YOU ARE then how can you say you know what goes on with this team. Like it or not the team is in the spotlight, don’t take it personal. Great oak and Newbury Park had their time in the hot seat. People who usually moaned and complained about it were parents from those schools. Why would Buchanan be exempt from any criticism?
