So much talk about the OK state course being slow. It’s just false. I’m good conditions like this year it is a moderate course.
I live near Stillwater, and the course isn't Impossibly tough by any means, but it's nothinng like the grass tracks you see California high schoolers run.
Hey there, how cool would it have been to see Hobbs Kessler out there today?
Not a possibility for many reasons
one is he turns 20 in March , i think you cannot turn 20 in the year the race is in?
other reasons? You cannot possibly be serious? Are you? Lol.
He seems to get in some decent mileage, and I think Jim Ryun ran some cross country. I thought it would be interesting to see. Has he ever run cross country. I apologize for my ignorance; I’ll go check his Wikipedia page.
Very impressive performance from Young, 23:47. The level of performances in general at USA XC among the juniors is so much higher than it used to be, with the exception of the year Teg beat Ritz (2001) and then Ritz took 3rd and Teg 5th behind Bekele at World Jr XC.
Leo looks to slot in very well at college 8k next year, and notably the twins are eligible next year as well for U20 championships, as they turn 20 in 2025. This is a nice consolation prize for having an off day at NXN. We could have our best junior team at World's in a long time if all of the qualifiers make the trip.
I would have liked to see Kessler run if they had had it last year when he turned 19. He does good 4M tempos at 7,000 feet, so 8k is not out of his range.

The last time the US won a junior team medal was in 1982.
I am not expecting the US to win a junior team medal with that team.
Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda and Eritrea are simply too strong. Top 5 maybe, but that will be hard.

Yes he ran some pretty impressive XC races as a senior in HS. Here is his most impressive result :
"I came here and got a chance to stay here and also I have told everyone else that I’m going to run for the United States and you’re going to see me in that ...

I believe Kessler has the third best or fourth fastest time ever on Mich State course and ran 8:39 yards with a 25.x penultimate 220. In his only real two mile and drilled Gavin Sherry in that last 440
he could have easily been s monster in 8 or 10k cross and when he was 3:34 fit, coukd surely have run sun 8:29 yards
In which State did the top 6 senior guys graduate HS in?
Brace yourself Betsie.....
You are not required to graduate from a US High School to be a US Citizen or run in a USATF Championship.
Go Army!!!!
Alan
Alan, maybe you or someone else can shed light on why Cheserek, never attained citizenship for the U.S. ? I am a NJ guy and no one seems to know, he has been here since 15-16..16-17 if you want to say he was old then, racked up amazing hardware for Oregon or Phil Knight U......and no one did anything for him, really, his clock should have started at 17 at least and he is now..28? I know a bunch of folks in the "industry, so to speak, not one knows the back story as to why 11 years later Ches was never pushed thru to citizenship. Quite frankly illegals have gotten more help than Ches. No one seems to know why? Even if a small college transgression....still? After all he did for the Ole Alma Mater Ducks? You would think they would have fast tracked him?

My guess is we don't know the back story. I can not speak on the citizenship process as a whole. I only understand the smart part as it relates to military service. My assumption is that your background would need to be squeaky clean, but again I do not know.
Immigrants have served in the United States Armed Forces since the founding of the country, but naturalization rates of service members are falling. Here are five reasons why.
