Crazy how palatine reloaded after losing lots of guys.
benet academy has everyone back next year
I meant New trier. But I can actually say the same about palatine. They did lose 3 guys but they are much, much deeper now. 10 guys fighting for varsity spots
if hinsdale central didn’t have that big of a 3-5 gap they would have challenged Plainfield south
Dylon Nalley runs 14:03 at Peoria. He's a junior. That's one of the fastest times ever by a junior.
Nalley's excellent time was on the Detweiller course, so for proper context we can compare his achievement as a junior to the best all-time Illinois State Meet results for fellow juniors:
He is one of the finalists to get the 7th spot on the Newbury Park team. It will be between him and a transfer who is finally allowed to run varsity this week
I think DGN has the best approach to peaking for state. They run an early competitive meet to get a barometer then avoid overracing and concentrate on consistent pack running and now another barometer test before the post regular season meets to again see where they are in their training.
I wonder about Plainfield, which this year seems to seek respect by running several high caliber meets two of them on back to back weekends. I don't know what sectional they're in but if it's tough it'll be yet another hard race before state.
HC on the other hand seems to try and avoid running a full team. While there may be reasons such as injury or "saving" their guys it's also risky because there may no cohesiveness and you're not sure how good you really are.
OPRF is also looking for respect, which they got at Spring but was that their season apex once it was achieved? They don't have a history of top finishes at state and may have come back to the field.

they had a strong top 3. Gamboa was not up with them but I didn’t expect that.
we still haven’t seen a race where their 5th was able to keep up with their 3/4. If their 5th guy can’t catch up to their 4th, their chances for a state title are over.
Plainfield south has a little better 1-4 than HC. So if HC’s 5th doesn’t close the gap, their chances of a state title are gone.
plainfield south pretty much has 5 guys ready to go.
