Let me start by stating that Newbury Park and Coach Brosnan's accomplishment is incredible. I am not trying to diminish the great team performance they achieved. But declaring a national or individual cross country record being set on one particular cross country course compared to a previous record on a different cross country course is ludicrous. A particular cross country course can have a course record, but claiming that a time on one course breaks a record time on another one has little validity. Now that being said, Colin Sahlman & Newbury Park's team performance will be argued as the best cross country performances of all time (or at least for the year 2021 -- quite a crew returns for Coach Brosnan in 2022)

Great!
Too bad that has nothing to do with the actual length of the 5k course.
5k + 5k = 10k, no?
If the 5k course is short and DI Regionals ran that same course twice for a 10k race, wouldn't that make the 10k course short? Like, really short?

And it likely is. At least according to D1 coaches whose teams ran the regional course. One estimated 10k course about 30sec short. This makes sense, given the 5k seems about 15sec short.
Name the coach. The course is accurate.

I have heard similar. But it's cross country - it shouldn't be about time - especially when so few course are properly measured or set up the same from one year to the next.
This course is set up the exact same every. single. race.
There are permanent markers in the ground for the start, splits, and finish.
If it's 30s short, why did the DI runners have similar times at Nats? Shouldn't their times at this course be much faster than Nats?
Every course that your kid didn't run is short.
SO TRUE!!!!
Weird comparison for the all time best, but dathan beat webb, hall and tim moore ( riley hough of 2000) by 20, 24 and 38 seconds at nationals. Moore ran similar to hough as a junior/ senior in Michigan. He was never close to ritz. Riley is close to newbury. Halls best times in cali were closer to newbury times than the gap to Dathan. I think they are close and newbury juniors will be all time bests next year in xc. Not yet though.

That's great! I'm looking forward to checking out the course some time!!
You do realize that most courses are not dedicated CC courses and are not always the same, right?

That course is also short? I know it was and they adjusted it, but not sure by how much?

Ah so true! I love these third hand accounts from "a coach" said it was 30 seconds short or 25 meters short or whatever. Or "another coach" wheeled it. Such a troll response.

If the majority of kids at a meet ran PRs of over a minute and a coaching friend of yours who was there who wheeled it stated it was 300m shorts why would you not trust him?
When you see a bunch of kids all PR at meets you aren't at do you think they are ALL coming off a great week of training or peaked perfectly for a mid season meet?!?

No one would notice or care if a course is only 25m short.
It’s absolutely reasonable to believe there are some shenanigans with that course being short…
If not for the boys race being ridiculous…the times some of these girls ran are not in keeping with their body of work this season.
Not really, Ryan Hall didn't break 1450 at Woodward Park his senior year. NPs front 3 ran at least 20 seconds faster than him. These guys are way ahead of where Hall was that year.

Correct! Within 25m would be great!!!
Off by 30 seconds? For which runners? The NP guys running low 14s or the back of the packer trying to break 25:00?
