if we lose our democracy to the trumpists it will largely because the mainstream press has failed to try hard enough to get out the facts, and because of right wing media completely misleading tens of millions of people. MSM is just too absolutely terrified of being called biased that they let Americans think nonsense. And Fox is just propaganda.
Americans are complete know-nothings on how the economy is doing. Ignorant rubes. More americans think more jobs have been lost than gained over the past year. Rubes. Dolts. Ignoramuses.

The U.S. unemployment rate hit 3.6 percent today, as 431,000 jobs were added during the month of March.
It’s the type of data point that should make a White House giddy. And yet, one can’t help but smell the whiff of frustration emanating from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
There is a remarkable disconnect among the American public involving the reality of the jobs market and the perception of it. A little-noticed survey by Navigator Research last month showed that 37 percent of the public thought that more jobs had been lost (yes, lost) over the last year while just 28 percent thought that they had been gained. That was particularly pronounced among Republicans, 47 percent of whom believed jobs had been lost over the last 12 months.
Needless to say, that’s wildly inaccurate: The unemployment rate was 6.4 percent when JOE BIDEN took office.
It's funny, but in disagreeing with you placing so much blame on the MSM, I'll turn your accurate portrayal of American into a different criticism of the MSM. First off, if someone paid even glancing attention to the MSM in the last 5 years, they know EXTREMELY CLEARLY that Trump and R party are huge dangers to this country. They also roughly know the pluses and minuses of the Biden administration. It's MOSTLY on the stupid Americans that you so accurately label.
However, while I understand why they don't insult their potential audience, I will also say that I've become increasingly annoyed by the MSM downplaying the culpability of Americans in SUPPORTING Trump and the Rs who go along. None of those folks would be in power if there weren't stupid Americans supporting them. But the MSM is too afraid (again, somewhat understandably) to emphasize this.....even though it's past time to do so.
