The Lakota West junior, Evelyn Prodoehl, should easily win D1 girls. Nobody is really close to her. She seems to win every race by at least a minute. IIRC, she has gone under 17:00 twice this season.
I’ll need to give more thought to the team race before I prognosticate on that.
So, after thinking a bit about it, I still say that Prodoehl will win D1 with Peer taking second. Peer seemed to have an off race at regional taking 3rd but Scheffler of Lake & Atkinson of Stow are also good and will contend for the runner-up spot. The Jerome athletes, Randolph & Fouts, may also contend for runner-up.
Prodoehl will gap the field early and win by over 30 seconds easily getting under the 17:25 course mark (if the weather is good) that Katie Clute ran last year. It would not surprise me if she were to run in the 16:50s.
For the team title, I'll take Davidson to beat Mason. Westlake, Perrysburg, Avon, & Shaker might all contend for the second spot as well. I had heard that Lakota West had some illnesses for the regional meet and were still just a few back from Mason so they should be up there as well.
Unfortunately, Sarah Peer won't be running Saturday.
This didn’t age well. In fact, at regions, their 5th guy threw down a big PR and finished as their 4th guy there
Katsares was typically anywhere between their 6th & 8th man all season, not 5th. He ran great that day though. Their 5-8 were all pretty interchangeable. Hawkins was off a bit and that made a big difference. As many on here have stated, the margin for error was tiny. A few seconds here and there and we'd be talking more about Lancaster's and Jerome's dramatic fall from district dominance than Kilbourne coming up short in qualifying.

Correct, he was their 6-8 runner at the beginning of the season but he was their 5th in the last 3 races before regionals (Berlin Bear, Ohio Capital, and District).
Appears that Hawkins was the only person who was off at regionals.
So it did seem like they needed a perfect race from all of their top 5 to advance to Obetz. And that’s hard to do especially as a group of 14-18 year olds.
Racing at important meets as a senior-heavy team gives them extra motivation to do well because there is no next year and they never know when is the next time the team will be this good or better. But it can also put pressure on seniors which can sometimes cause them to underperform

It doesn't matter. Everyone acts like performance at regionals = state success. It doesn't. I ran with a sub-9 guy in HS and he just did what he had to do at regionals. One year he ran 9:22 at regionals in track and then 8:56 at state. We have no idea what the race situation was at regionals and quite frankly, it doesn't matter. Maybe neither ran to their ability, who knows and the whole argument is plain stupid. We will see Saturday.
I hadn't realized that Peer had had an injury for most of the season. That a shame.
If what the article states is accurate, that Peer ran the regional meet to help her team make the state meet, that is a really selfless act and gesture on her part. That is what being a good teammate is all about. Good luck to Westlake and also to Peer in the spring and next season at UVa.
The article stated that Peer was the presumptive top distance runner in the state after placing second at the state meets to Katie Clute last season in XC, the 1600m and the 3200m. While that was more than likely true prior to the season, Prodoehl's dominance this season made it clear that she was the favorite. Still, though, Peer would have pushed at the front and made the race more interesting. I am hoping that Lake's Scheffler can challenge.

Yes, a little home cookin' in that article proclaiming Peer was tops. I'm guessing the writer hasn't been following results all year, and maybe just looked at the graduation of Clute as a defacto crowning of Peer as the new "best in state".
That said... I would've loved to see Prodoehl race a healthy Peer. Pretty cool that she (Peer) gutted one out to get the team to qualify.

Peer had to have been gutted by not being able to run at the state meet but as I mentioned, that was a really selfless act on her part.
FWIW, Clute has had a really good season for Oregon. She took 1st place in their season opener, a meet that Oregon had mostly their freshman or upperclassmen that were not in the top 7ish the prior year. Last weekend she put in a 20:04 effort for 6K to take 24th in the PAC-12 meet as Oregon's 4th runner.
Last year, Dub Jerome missed the state meet in a tiebreaker. This year they missed it by 1 point.
Last year, Kilbourne missed the state meet by 3 points. This year, they missed it by 8 points.
You really enjoy bring this up over and over don't you? How many times do you plan on posting? We all know you're a Scioto kid, trolling these boards with not-so-disguised comments/reactions about results. Maybe you should spend your time talking to Weston about how he's planning on beating Sam or Ryan (we dont even need to mention Ben) on Saturday. He hasn't come close yet. Teamwise, I've got Scioto finishing 18th or 19th. You guys blew your wad last Saturday...
Does anyone know if the Mid-East XC championships are taking place this year? I believe Ohio girls & Michigan boys won last year.
The meet has lost a bit of its cachet in recent years but is still a competitive meet although all states are not sending teams. The meet was originally for Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Last year I am pretty sure it was only Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

Looks like it is. 11/18. Typically is the same day as NCAAs.
The Mideast Cross Country Championships presents the best 12 high school men adn women senior runners from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and other area states.
