Pence agrees that Trump and many 'conservatives' are Putinistas.
Wapo:
Former vice president Mike Pence on Friday night said there is no room in the Republican Party for “apologists for Putin” in an apparent swipe at former president Donald Trump. In a speech to GOP donors in New Orleans, Pence referenced the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As the United States and international community have responded with wide-ranging, extensive sanctions against Russia, Pence said now was not the time for conservatives to voice their support of Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Ask yourself, where would our friends in Eastern Europe be today if they were not in NATO? Where would Russian tanks be today if NATO had not expanded the borders of freedom?” he said. “There is no room in this party for apologists for Putin.” While Pence did not explicitly refer to the former president by name, Trump has been among the loudest, and only, Republican voices supporting Putin. Trump recently described Putin as “smart,” “savvy” and “a genius,” while insisting the attack on Ukraine never would have happened on his watch.
But Trump has told the knuckle draggers that he can own libs much more than any other R, so contrary to what Pence might say, the base doesn't give a cr@p
Also, funny that neither Pence nor Plompeo ever spoke up all those times Trump openly praised Putin... remember Helsinki? They are not even saying anything about Trump's statement directly now, because they hope to keep knuckle dragger support.
Trump, trump trump, Trump Trump Trump, more Trump Trump Trump. Does it ever end? Are you this effed up with your Trump derangement? It is pathological. You are one f-cked up person.
I think what makes it complex for some is the sincere belief that holding on to their position is genuinely doing the public a service - i.e., the replacement would be worse.
Absolutely. But I think that the list of people who that might have applied to is really short. And the farther into his term they took the job, the less likely they deserve the benefit of the doubt.
Top 2 on my list are probably Dunford and Milley. The culminations of long military careers. Why pass on the chance to largely lead the US military just because the president is horrendous?
CoS Kelly might be in the short list, too. But even with him, he likely knew what Trump was before he sought and took the job. Any person competitive for that job obviously has LOTS of other options. But he went. And yeah, perhaps learned that Trump was actually way worse than he thought. And perhaps held on for a while to try to keep a lid on it.
If it weren’t for his huge DB treatment of the impeachment testimony, Bolton might have been on my list. But that completely disqualified him (and I now hate seeing him on TV when we all know he’s an unprincipled weasel). I think of Christie VERY similarly. Ten minutes ago he was playing a very direct role in trying to get the guy re-elected (AND getting Covid from him), and now we’re supposed to buy his anti-Trumpism? Please. And maybe we’re about to see similar from Pompeo?
Who else might be on your list?
Yeah, I hear you. And I don't want to spend too much energy defending folks whom I completely despise. Just wanted to point out that it is possible (however improbable) that some of these folks were trying to do the best that they could under essentially impossible circumstances.
IMHO, Kelly is the only on of the whole lot of them who struck me as not entirely an a-hole.

good luck trying to memory-hole trump.
trump is the option, the other way to go, if we fire Biden and the dems. that's what we'd get.
So the 'biden or trump' dialectic is 100% the most important comparison in US politics. There is no other at this point. Biden or Trump. So making comparisons is vitally important to do.
And watching 'conservatives' suddenly try to shy away from Trump is disgusting after the fawning they did for five years. Have some pride. You bought him. He is you. Don't try to deny that. It's just embarrassing.
FWIW We should immediately authorize Keystone, release the US oil reserves, abolish the gas tax permanently, and double the mileage deduction on income tax.
Europe needs breathing room to embargo all Russian oil and gas. I think it will happen within the next two weeks. And gas prices will go even higher.
US average price per gallon is now over $4. I remember someone here saying that if you buy a new gas powered car you are an idiot. Looks like he was right, but I forget who said it.
Why do all you rubes think that the President of the United States controls the price of a global commodity?
Even if we add a million barrels a day of domestic production, it will still be priced at the market value. We're not getting a "home team" discount from the oil producers just because production ramps up in the US. The only way prices are going to drop is if demand crashes (recession), or the Saudis start pumping about 10,000,000 more barrels a day and really move the needle on production. And, if that occurs, it will just take over for whatever Russian oil is embargoed...
If you want low gas prices, maybe move to Venezuela or some other socialist paradise where prices are controlled. If you love capitalism, enjoy the price increases.

Wrong.
Libidiots like you say Presidents don’t raise gas prices… I say bullsh!t, their policies sure do.
How it started: "Biden suspended oil & gas leasing in slew of executive actions on global warming. He shuts down the XL pipeline. He then shuts down all new drilling on federal land. Shuts down the funding for new drilling. Then starts buying oil from foreign countries.
Authorizing Keystone would be beyond stupid. But if Biden did that, then the pipleline wouldn't be built anyway, so he might as well do it just to make the Gary's head explode.
Releasing the oil reserves wouldn't do much for gas prices. It's probably a bad idea, but again, it would make the Garys of our nation happy, so no biggie if Biden did it.
The gas tax does need to be abolished. Gas sales are going to dry up in a couple of years anyway so we might as well go ahead and figure out a new way to pay for highways.
Doubling the mileage deduction is a pretty weird idea. I don't know what it would accomplish except maybe encouraging people to drive more, which would make gas more scarce and drive up prices some more.
Gary doesn't really think things through, does he?
I think OPEC is going to have to blink here and raise production - they've said no recently, but OPEC's goal is to keep the world addicted to oil and the world economy growing - they don't want to throw the globe into recession because of oil prices. Because that would reduce demand for oil in the long run.
And they can taste the money they can make selling oil at over $100.
Expect some good news from OPEC this week, which will knock oil down a bit.

Lets go Brandon!

Biden did not ban fracking. Stop repeating lies.
New pipeline construction will only lead to empty pipelines.
The oil companies don't believe oil prices will stay this high. So they are not investing in new production. It's as simple as that. Free enterprise. Not Joe biden doing anything.
NYT:
Despite the climbing oil prices, the U.S. oil industry remains reluctant to increase production significantly. Executives of several companies, including Pioneer Natural Resources, Devon Energy and Continental Resources, have said in recent days that they were committed to limiting production to avoid oversupplying the market and pushing down prices to unprofitable levels. Many companies adopted this strategy after oil prices plunged in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic. Vicki Hollub, Occidental’s chief executive, told analysts on Friday that there was “no need and no intent to invest in production growth.”

None of that has had any effect on gas prices today. It might in a few years, but no action Biden has taken affects the supply of oil today. Thus, it also does not affect today's gas prices.
Why do you have so much trouble understanding that?

You are probably right, but it's too late for OPEC to keep us addicted.
Several times for the last 50 years, we've had oil shortages. Each time we would all swear that we have to break our addiction to oil. We never did because there was no good alternative.
But that has finally changed. Oil demand was expected to peak in 2025 and then decline rapidly as the world switches to EVs. But now that might happen a little sooner.
