It has become clear that Putin intends to kill a million or so people in Ukraine. The rest of the world will have little choice but to sit by and watch because we can't get directly involved.
So the West will do everything short of that including a complete embargo of Russian oil and gas. If you think prices at the pump are high right now, you ain't see nothin' yet.
At this point, how has the U.S. help Ukraine in dealing with attacks from Russia?
Giving them military intel on practically a live basis, sending arms, rallying almost ALL of europe to unite and start sending weapons as well, dealing crippling blows to their economy.. maybe you think their military can survive forever without money. They are overwhelming Ukraine's tiny military without doubt, but they will get starved out in the long run. Many Ukrainians will die but a heck of a lot of Russian soldiers will too, and by some measures they are currently dying at a rate higher than in WW2. We can't more directly intervene in the murderous dictator's actions, because we are democratic and try to observe international law. Ukraine is not a member of NATO unfortunately. The best we can do is brutalize Russia's economy, make life hell for those oligarchs and their families, and limit loss of life to Russian troops and Ukrainians.
Gotta love how right wingers are quickly demanding we impose a no-fly zone and even shoot missiles... Want to see action? Get your fat a$$es out of your couches and book your trip to Ukraine, President Z asked for all volunteers.
Are you demanding that all American corporations also do their part and stop doing business in Russia? Do you understand anything about the oil industry and markets?
Pence agrees that Trump and many 'conservatives' are Putinistas.
Wapo:
Former vice president Mike Pence on Friday night said there is no room in the Republican Party for “apologists for Putin” in an apparent swipe at former president Donald Trump. In a speech to GOP donors in New Orleans, Pence referenced the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As the United States and international community have responded with wide-ranging, extensive sanctions against Russia, Pence said now was not the time for conservatives to voice their support of Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Ask yourself, where would our friends in Eastern Europe be today if they were not in NATO? Where would Russian tanks be today if NATO had not expanded the borders of freedom?” he said. “There is no room in this party for apologists for Putin.” While Pence did not explicitly refer to the former president by name, Trump has been among the loudest, and only, Republican voices supporting Putin. Trump recently described Putin as “smart,” “savvy” and “a genius,” while insisting the attack on Ukraine never would have happened on his watch.

But Trump has told the knuckle draggers that he can own libs much more than any other R, so contrary to what Pence might say, the base doesn't give a cr@p
Also, funny that neither Pence nor Plompeo ever spoke up all those times Trump openly praised Putin... remember Helsinki? They are not even saying anything about Trump's statement directly now, because they hope to keep knuckle dragger support.

In the US, even the most vile (and obviously guilty) deserve a public defender to do their best to defend them.
It is in this spirit that I defend the actions (inactions) of Pence and Pompeo while members of the Trump administration.
It is a difficult and complex matter to disagree with one's boss publicly.
This is the Putin wing of the GOP. Wow, just wow. I didn't leave the GOP, the GOP left me:
Douglas MacGregor, nominated by Trump as ambassador to Germany; appointed by Trump as sr advisor to the Secretary of Defense, says Russian forces have been “too gentle” and “I don’t see anything heroic” about Zelensky.

Europe needs breathing room to embargo all Russian oil and gas. I think it will happen within the next two weeks. And gas prices will go even higher.
US average price per gallon is now over $4. I remember someone here saying that if you buy a new gas powered car you are an idiot. Looks like he was right, but I forget who said it.

Nope, electric cars aren't going to work...REALLY think about it. I work for GM, I'm in the know.

Nobody is stopping US producers from producing more. But you need a lesson in that market to give you better perspective on why price has been and is what it is and what it takes to shift it one way or the other. It isn't as simple as "pump more!"... we produce a lot of oil that we don't have the capacity to refine, others produce a lot of oil that we do have the capacity to refine and therefore makes more sense to purchase from them. Our domestic producers were wild wild west jacka$$es for some many years, pumping away at record numbers cannibalizing each other and running out of cash because they couldn't turn a profit at those prices. Do you think they aren't dying to make a profit? They'd love to pump more but a lot of them screwed themselves royally and went broke and some can't extend their debt anymore than they have already.
It ain't simple simpleton! We can stop buying Russian oil, but at what further cost to us the consumers and the broader domestic sectors that rely on it? You complain about high gas prices every single day on here, yet you are proposing they immediately increase. You're an empty headed clown to assume Biden can just order domestic producers to triple their extraction overnight and refine that oil for our existing infrastructure. Dumba$$

Oh I am not complaining about the current state of the GOP, I want them all to shred each other to pieces and remain divided.

Of course, resigning is quite un-complex.
Agreed that is a good option.
I think what makes it complex for some is the sincere belief that holding on to their position is genuinely doing the public a service - i.e., the replacement would be worse.

But in the case of Pence, Trump was not actually his boss. The VP can not be fired. So the VP can do or say whatever he wants. He wouldn't actually lose his job until his term is over.
Pence never publicly disagreed with Trump until after Trump tried to have him assassinated. And even then, it took a very long time for Pence to mildly criticize the orange criminal. What a coward.

Absolutely. But I think that the list of people who that might have applied to is really short. And the farther into his term they took the job, the less likely they deserve the benefit of the doubt.
Top 2 on my list are probably Dunford and Milley. The culminations of long military careers. Why pass on the chance to largely lead the US military just because the president is horrendous?
CoS Kelly might be in the short list, too. But even with him, he likely knew what Trump was before he sought and took the job. Any person competitive for that job obviously has LOTS of other options. But he went. And yeah, perhaps learned that Trump was actually way worse than he thought. And perhaps held on for a while to try to keep a lid on it.
If it weren’t for his huge DB treatment of the impeachment testimony, Bolton might have been on my list. But that completely disqualified him (and I now hate seeing him on TV when we all know he’s an unprincipled weasel). I think of Christie VERY similarly. Ten minutes ago he was playing a very direct role in trying to get the guy re-elected (AND getting Covid from him), and now we’re supposed to buy his anti-Trumpism? Please. And maybe we’re about to see similar from Pompeo?

Who else might be on your list?
And yes, I realize that Christie didn’t work for him (that I recall).
