Even with this SWIFT announcement which affects SELECTED banks (not all their banks) Russia will still be able to sell oil & gas to the world. Europe STILL buys 40% of their natural gas & 25% of their crude oil from Russia and still sell 600K barrels per day to the US.
These sanctions still have no teeth and Russia is still selling oil.
As you have seen, the sanctions can get tighter and tighter over time. Europe has to decide if a full-on embargo is worth the pain.
It is important for the US to be in sync with Europe on sanctions in order to present a united front. Since the US won't feel as much pain as Europe, we will gladly go as far as Europe is willing.
And to extend my point, Biden has done a terrific job on sanctions. If we decided to go alone with our own independent sanctions package, the coalition would fall apart and the whole anti-war effort would be much weaker.
I tend to get overly optimistic but have to think there is a chance for some very good things to come out of this.
1/ getting away from fossil fuels is obviously a national security issue and a Manhattan Project effort is needed. Wars over the last decades tend to have oil around them, and it's enough. Get us off oil and there will be fewer wars.
The war might, maybe, possibly, help to get Europe off fossil fuel. But even though Europe has been much better on that front than any other part of the world, I still doubt it will happen.
The problem is that humanity wants more and more energy. We've already deployed massive capacity of solar and wind, but emissions keep going higher. So we aren't so much replacing fossil fuels with renewables. We are just using more energy.
Until governments put a stop to new pipelines, new wells, and new mines, we will not make much progress.
No, we need a two prong approach. Until we build up alternative energy sources to the point where we can "switch over" from oil w/o ANY adverse effects, we MUST take advantage of our own fossil fuel bounty that is available to us today.
Our next POTUS in 2025 will reopen the XL pipeline, reopen domestic oil & gas leases and repeal the Biden regulatory nonsense. We must be energy independent again and energy prices will drop again.
America First will be coming back and so will the a new batch of mean tweets, errrrr "Truth Socials"
Sunshine, wind and water are all free resources, but the technology to transform them into electricity and store that energy depends on metal based technology. Those metals are also found in the ground in different places in the world and at different scarcities. New battery technologies which have yet to be developed may change the metals and quantities involved, but they will create new dependencies. Clearly, reducing petroleum dependence is good for the world in myriad ways, but some of the resources will end up being found in areas where unstable and corrupt regimes will periodically threaten their availability.

We will never build up alternative energy and just "switch over".
As long as fossil fuel production is allowed to expand we will never get rid of it. We will just use more and more energy and emissions will continue to grow forever.
Mankind has always used more energy every time a new power source is discovered.
The only way out is to stop using the air as a sewer.

no doubt we need a 'two prong' approach.
the question is how quickly the fossil fuel prong can be eliminated for the good of the planet. Another trumpist admin will try to support the oil prong and make it the main one. that's the problem.

Wrong!
God controls the weather and climate patterns, NOT man.
You continue to reject Christianity and embrace democrat evils.

Thanks God Biden is president right now.

Yes, like every manufactured good, batteries, solar panels, and wind turbines need resources that come from somewhere.
But they nothing like fossil fuels which must be pumped or mined in massive never-ending quantities.
I could go on discussing the particulars, but there is no resource used in solar, wind, and batteries that will require sufficient quantities to start a war over. It would be like saying we are going to start a war over cotton fields because everybody wears shirts.

I remember several times during the previous administration when the media mentioned an unnamed source and you took that as gospel truth and ran with it. Ha!

You can put a modicum of trust in unnamed sources when the story comes from a trusted source and the information is compelling. This doesn't pass that test because:
1. Daily wire doesn't qualify as a trusted source.
2. They didn't say what kind of a government source it was. Might have been a mailman.
3. The source provided no new information. It's just one person's opinion.
4. Even the opinion is dubious because it just consists of Monday morning quarterbacking.

1. Handicap US fossil fuel companies 2. Push Green New Deal BS 3. Cancel Keystone pipeline 4. Stoke Russia-Ukraine war 5. Blame Russia-Ukraine for high energy costs
