Where did all these spectators come from? Is the Emir paying his subjects to show up? Under pain of death?
It's Thursday and so the first day of the Islamic weekend.
Kaul just got the championship record in the javelin...almost 80 meters for a decathlete!!

That's what i thought. I mean why would they show up for a day with no finals? I assumed they'd just pay them or force them to go for all 10 days. WHy they'd do it in the middle of the week is bizarre unless they were worried just no one would show up for a night like tonight with hardly any finals.
this is rich. If there is anything more corrupt than NOP or IAAF, it's the IOC. He should first clean his own Augias stable. Disgusting hypocrite, like most officials!

so top 7 qualify here
Hull out then?
Hull ran a nice PB (4:01.8). Nanyondo of Uganda clearly cut her off, but not sure if it would be enough for a DQ and I doubt they would protest. Nice end to a long season for her with a PB. Excited to see what a full year of training with Koko and Hassan, and altitude stints will bring her in 2020.

Hassan/Houlihan looked the best in heat 1. Muir in heat 2.
The second heat was 15 seconds faster than the first. How much will that difference matter on Saturday?

Middle of the week???
Maybe time to update your knowledge about the Middle East.
The weekend is Friday and Saturday.
From splits provided on iaaf.org:
Hassan ran her final 300m in 41.96 (55.9 pace for 400m) . . . this off a very slow first 1200m.
Simpson ran her final 300m in 45.57 (60.8 pace for 400m) . . . this off a fast first 1200m.
Sure hope someone in the final makes the pace honest . . .

How hard is it to throw a javelin 50m, which some of these elite decathletes can't do? Nearly 50% worse than the world record.
Not saying I can throw 50m, but these elites who can't look like they should.
Yeah Usain Bolt threw one 56m
It looked to me that the EThiopian wanted to come out. Filip didn't want him to come out and made that clear but shoving him back. THe Ethiopian tried to come again and went down.
I definitely think the Ethiopian didn't have space to come out but also normally a runner would probably just back off and let him come out since it's a semi. Watching it live, if I had to choose between Filip or The Ethiopian who deserves the blame, I'd say the Ethiopian.
Jakob and Filip looked superb. They're gonna make French fries out of Potato Man in the final. Bet on it.
Hassan will crush the women's final. No contest.
Bummed to see Hull not advancing. She lost her spot to yet another cheating/pushing Ugandan.
Hiltz is toast. All that energy wasted.
Both Lemi and ramsden with small q in the official results.
Weak. Lemi deserved a DQ for impeding Filip repeatedly.
How did the other guy fall??

I'm impressed with Engels' open attitude. He seems to be honest. He does have to deal with the consequences of being with NOP though, and will for the rest of his life.

Energy wasted? She ran a PB to grab a time qualifier. How is that wasting energy?
If i could think of the perfect time to PR, i'd pick Worlds as the 2nd best time to do it. Olympics would be the first.

The javelin can expose you a lot if you're not a true all rounder. Takes massive strength, explosiveness, and coordination. Not everyone has that.
Does not wanting my kids to watch a bisexual threesome at the Olympics make me a bigot?
