I have no argument against a satirical magazine publishing offensive material. That's what they do and they have the legal right to do so. I defend their right to do so of course.
But now - you are saying that to defend western civ I have to be a sh$t? I'm not following your logic. I don't think western civ is served well if everyone decides it is their responsibility to be a sh$t. That's like what you would expect in a barbarian tribe, not in a sophisticated society like ours.
For western civ to work, people have to behave and not scapegoat or deliberately p$ss off large amounts of neighbors.
OK agip you are going to have to do better than that. A whole lot better. And I know you can.
Let's start with the bolded statement (question), shall we? By using the phrase "I have to be a shit" you are completely misrepresenting me and further you are assuming your conclusion.

Assume: To publish said cartoons is to "be a shit"
Conclude: Bad idea

OK, try starting over with some rational arguments. Like I said, I'm pretty sure that you are capable of this.
one weakness I have is never having taken a phil class, so these debate/logic terms go over my head, seriously.
Anyway, I never said that 'to publish said cartoons is to be a sh$t'
it depends on the context.
If I did it now, it would be dickish. if a satirical newspaper does it, it's a whole lot less dickish - probably not dickish at all, although it's sort of their job to be dicks, so it's a complex problem.
anyway, you'll have to be more direct if you want to have a debate.
my main argument is that we best defend our civilization by taking the high road. the high road is not deliberately targeting and antagonizing millions/billions of people. The high road is catching criminals, putting them in jail, and better defending controversial orgs like Hebdo.
