I watched the whole thing and while the stream got choppy at points it overall looked like a great event. I was smiling and laughing the whole time.
The Brojos definitely come off as whiny, and their "three thoughts" on the event read like sour grapes.
Have to agree with this. Typically love letsrun, think flotrack pro and all that is super lame, but tonight's event was incredible. Great stream, tolerable announcing, live splits(!?).... give the boys at FT some credit.
If Galen Rupp did this event, would AlSal have him do a workout after?
I must say that was really fun and had me glued to the screen the whole time. They seriouly covered better then someajor networks cover marathons. It was well done, props to the flotrack guys.
If Rupp tried the event he would DNF; quitting immediately after feeling funny inside after guzzling and trying to run.

They also changed the title of this thread from "Beer Mile World Championship" to "Flotrack Beer Mile Event." Seems extremely pedantic and a bit sour. I hope they at least give them props for all the good things.

that's a fact.
Not true. Floreani may think that's true (he called me up and berated me for an hour). But I don't get how if you hire a publicist and have an article in the NY Times, you then decide to blame letsrun when the community gets upset. Amazing logic.
When you talked to the Woman was she with Austin ISD or the owner of the track?
Also, in your call did you refer to the event as a "binge drinking" event and ask about it being on a school campus? (which it isn't)
What happened with the world record holder? Was he going to hold his own Beer Mile? share the back story on this.
After watching that interview with Symmonds, I am now a giant fan of Symmonds and also want to know who screwed over flotrack. Possiably brojo related???

I am fine with him calling out whoever called the track. But to call out Nielsen is lame I think, especially if Nielsen was in fact talking to Flotrack about an event then got screwed.
You can trash talk Nielsen's beer drinking on one beer maybe, but at least he was on a real track. and doesn't "call out" other people over a beer mile, an event in which he holds the WR (The same guy who said the COA track was okay said that WR was okay too). Corey and Nick should run their mouth less about this event.
Note that I think beer miles are fun (I suck but that isn't the point), and Flotrack seems to have done a pretty good job. If they did cancel on a Harris/Nielsen event though they are really shitty people and should be ashamed of trash talking Nielsen. If that event cancellation is hearsay, then no shame to Flocasts getting an event done pretty well.
I'm pretty disgusted with the Brojos/editors/moderators over this whole rivalry with Flotrack. We have a common goal of promoting running. I'd normally be irate that Floreani called Rojo to yell at him, but this is a true exception. The guy's organization tried to put on a big track event with major names from around the sport and Rojo seemed to get some sadistic joy out of the struggle while purposely libeling the event whenever he could.
LRC probably ought to be commended for calling out the binge drinking event for what it is.
I'm surprised to learn there is a Formula One track in Texas
I attended and thought it was a fun, well organized event. The curves were tight, so probably a little bit slower than a typical high school track. I was surprised how many of the men opted for bottles instead of cans.
Training for the beer mile.

I was there. It was fun. They had good beer. The fans could get right up on the track as the runners flew by. There were huge video boards displaying what was being streamed in case your view was blocked. Met Nick, he didn't seem too happy. I think it being on that race track instead of a running track really hurt him. He gave his headband to a high school kid which made that kid's life apparently. Also got some Rungum samples. Stuff's pretty good. Met Katy Mackey. She was super cool and talked to me about her goals for next year. She's running USA indoors and cross nationals. Kept thanking me for coming out. "The running event" is in Austin this weekend so there were a lot of running people there. Saw one of the Hansens coaches. Overall, it was a great even in my opinion. I doubted it, but it turned out really well. The venue was probably better than if it had been held at that tiny high school track. I hope there's a bigger crowd next year.
Sorry that was the wrong video.
Yes, this is an extremely low bar, but I didn't make the bar, that's where the bar has been set in distance running. Expectations are very low.[/quote]
Did somebody say "Bar"?
Its a sad state of affairs when the sport lowers itself to stupid frat boy tricks and elevates it to a so called elite event. Its bad for the sport in every aspect.
How will a sponsor take you serious ? What happens when somebody gets sick ends up in hospital and sues.
BTW , Nick now has become the sports clown act , anything for a buck and personal PR. Whats next running backwards world record attempt ?
