Sometimes I delineate, depends what the question is. Since it was best runner from your state I included all runners but excluded field event people. If it had said distance runners I would have excluded the short event runners.

As far as men go and I know it's already been said, you can't go wrong with Mike Monagle. His half marathon duels are legendary. The one he raced against the Rocket was one of those, water wasn't the only thing they were handing out at the water stations.

Wow!! Not one mention of Alan Scharsu. This guy only weighed 90 lbs, and stood 5'2" in high school but ran 8:44 two mile in the Dirt.

He still has one of the fastest times ever for 2 miles.

cal had 190+/- guys run 9:10 or under in 2mile/3200... up to 1999. Just counting thru top 6 placers except a few years when the times were deeper in 8 or 10 places.

Alright I read through all the posts and I didn't see anyone add Bob Kennedy to the Indiana list. Yes it's debatable because he went to HS in Ohio but he competed collegiality and professionally in Indiana, he also settled down his business there. So I think we can claim him as a Hoosier.

Also for California Gary Tuttle could be added to one of their best road racers ever. He also was tested to having one of the highest Vo2 max's against some of the best runners in the 70's
