Good college programs are not interested in Saugus runners. Plain and simple.
Actually I think that's just B.S.

The Saugus girls probably choose colleges based off of education and financial status, not athletics. I know Jauregui was trying had a hard time deciding between Chico State, a national d2 power, and San Jose State. SJ offered a full-ride and Chico probably didn't offer her much. It's hard to pass up a full-ride to college nowadays.
No one wants Saugus runners. Yes, they run very well in high school obviously, but after that they all run like shit. I don't know one male or female thats come out of Saugus thats run faster than they have in high school. They either tank or quit. Sorry but it's the truth. Like FM's Aris, Rene Paragas works his runners to the point of breaking or quitting.
maybe the kids don't run well in college because they are exposed to drinking/drugs/more work. and they aren't babied anymore like they are at home. this applies to all athletes everywhere.... college is different. not many perform well after high school.
I think a better way to put it - being on a top team in HS is not a great predictor of being a college standout.

So, not only is he going to the worst distance program in the Ivy League, he is also going to a school without a coach for next year? This is a 4:07 miler. Seems a very stupid risk to me. What if the new guy hired brings in his own staff. Why take a chance on the old regime or the new one?
In the few months since this post, he has written that he likes history. I'm pretty sure Penn has the #3 American history program in the country.
