Agreed. Similarly, I was very disappointed to discover that Michael Strahan is not, in fact, planning a switch to soccer. His participation in this ad campaign was misleading.

I agree, too. As a youngster I was devastated when I learned that Julius Erving hadn't really changed his name to "Dr. Chapstick."

And I tore up all my Buffalo Bills posters when I learned that O.J. Simpson couldn't really fly:

And now Alan Webb!?? Why do these stars mess with their fans like this??!! WHY? WHY?
Webb needs to grow up. Fast.
Join me in my quest for justice. Post in my new thread.

Anyone posting on this thread that is not Haha, YO has been trolled by Haha, YO. However since none of the true targets have responded (Webb, Teg, Salazar, and the Brojos) ultimately this troll is unsuccessful. Nice idea though!
The results are different now becasue the timing was messed up, I ran the race and was there and the original results were like 22 seconds slow. Not really sure how that happens but first time road races have their kinks

What was plausible at all about Webb's video?
1. He doesn't have a desk at Nike.
2. He doesn't speak on a desktop phone.
3. He doesn't run the 5k
4. He doesn't run road races.
5. He doesn't tell his coach where and when he will race.
6. He's checking a sheet of notes.
7. Nike doesn't have HD surveillance cameras aimed at Webb's desk that doesn't exist.
These 7 reasons set up the humor. Anyone knowledgable if running would know that this was rouse and ghat it was so preposterous that it wad funny.
Yes, we all knew it was acting and not a real phone call. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. That shouldn't have made us believe he wasn't really going to race. As for him not running the 5km... I'd say his 13.10 disagrees. As for him not running road races... it was his comeback after a long lay off. Running a low key road race seems logical. Now please try answering the question again. Nothing you have said gives a good reason for us to believe he wasn't actually going to race. I for one thought this was a fun way of letting the fans know when he would be returning. You might not know this but we have been waiting a long time. If the video was just made to advertise the race and Webb never planned on racing it he is an absolute wanker.
I need to rely on how preposterous it would be for two track athletes to run a provincial, first time road race. How crazy would it be for two elite coaches of two elite athletes to agree to send them to a meet with no competition and with a couple of hundred bucks in prize money when the core European track season is underway. If they were going to run a road race they'd be at Bix.
I'm beginning to think that these angry posts are more Nike propoganda. No one knowledgeable fan could have believed that they'd be running and these fake responses are just keeping the topic on the front page.

Of course this is spot on. But even if some people got misled into thinking that two top Americans were going to race each other around the Nike parking lots for $300, what damages did these fans suffer exactly when the race didn't come off? It's absolutely pathetic that so many people seem to feel they've been made to suffer some calamity. Unless you drove all night to get there to watch, shut up already. (And if you did drive out to Beaverton, why not have the dignity to laugh at your own foolishness.)
THREAD OF THE DECADE
But for all the wrong reasons
The only thing that Webb can do to redeem himself at this point is to go to the Nike parking lot and race Teg over 5K. Until he does this, he will continue to have thousands of angry fans.
