Paulino finally ran a 400 where she didn't key off of other athletes. That's why i always knew she had 0.5 in her. I hope she tries for sub 48 post Olympics.
I actually feel like the hurdles is a waste of her supreme talent
50.37 with hurdles man
We have a rough sense of how fast Bol is and syndey must have at least a few tenths, she's def at least up there with Paulino, I think she could go sub 48
Totally; SML would have more than had her hands full here. Paulino looked to me to shutting it down before the line; maybe I'm overestimating what that cost her but that sure looks like it could have been just under 48 if she would have run all the way through the line.
So she was only a stride off Kratochvilova's best. Looks like we're heading back to the good old days of the '80's again.
I'm so stoked that it's Paulino. She's been paying her dues, improving bit by bit for years. Until now a hadn't gotten the sense that I knew how fast she could run because she tends to run fast enough to win.

Absolutely awful. How hard is it to watch until the guy hits the tape and go? Bednarek was so early and Kerley looked like he was starting the long jump with those slow first steps.
It is a lot harder than many of you think.
As the incoming runner approaches, everything is magnified as there are a ton of guys bearing down on you. As they approach everything is magnified and a flight or fight dynamic kicks in. So relay practice does two things. It helps to figure out the optimal place to put your mark and curbing of the flight syndrome.
Secondly there can be a bit of confusion if incoming runners are dressed similarly. You can leave early if you mistake the approaching runner as your team mate.
Well everyone else managed to pull it off; certainly it's harder than it looks but this is a thing for the US time and time again, ridiculous.

So substantive pre-race practice is needed, which they apparently don't do much of.
