Mind numbingly dumb thread. All the post-race interviews with the track nerd journalists are pretty bad because they are terrible at constructing interview questions. Valby handled it just fine. Not sure what people want from her.
I don't assume what training others do. There have been years of discussion about that here. Mileage has been established for distance runners since the 60's. Are you new to the sport?
Unfortunately I think socially awkward means she doesn't just say "I gave it 110%, all thanks to god, and......just looking forward to nationals thanks guys..."
I could listen to her for 10 min post race. She sounds like a real person. We shouldn't ever be hoping for less in track and field. More is good. More PV is good.
She trains harder. No doubt. She once talked about what she does on an arc and if you have ever done an arc, it takes unbelievable commitment to do what she does. Those things are boring. She puts in more hours and does track workouts none of us could do.
The top talented people are more or less the same, she is winning with just push ups.
Normally Parker Valby is a hoot in the interviews, but ESPN, please keep Fernando at home. He's been difficult to watch/listen to all weekend.
Can we do something about Dwight Stones while we're at it, too? On Valby's pacer: "She's out there to try to hold Valby back so she doesn't go too fast." Stones is a great high jump announcer. He's the Sergeant Schultz of distance running.

She can't train harder than other distance runners who run 7 days a week, not 3. She trains differently. If it was as effective it would be the norm for distance runners. It isn't. It is a substitute mainly for the injury-prone. The injury-prone are rarely the best - at anything. Healthy and strong, and trained to their limit, is usually better.
I didn't see it until last night, but my daughter warned me that the interview was cringeworthy. I think these interviewers all think they need to get her to say something "wacky" so they proceed to ask stupid questions or bring up inane topics. Just ask her about the race like you do with other runners. He could have done without the ABBA stuff. Why is he trying to "ackchyually" her on national television when she is just saying she likes a Rihanna song? Let it go.
Yeah, for me it's the indoor nationals double that tipped me over the edge into non-believer, but the BU opener performance didn't help. If we're going to compare, look at Nico, who also doubled in the same events at indoors: raw talent, impressive progression, but plenty of normal highs and lows along the way. Nico also has more experience competing amongst pros than PV. But he's never way ahead of everyone else, you can see how hard he's working (always), and for his indoor doubles he finished 1 and 2 seconds ahead of second place.
Not only does Parker get her teammates to rabbit to "slow her down" (their words), she never looks tired. She never even bends over for a second or two, hands on knees, to catch her breath. Watch Tuohy after the 2023 outdoor 5k and compare how tired the two of them look. The difference is not a matter of talent imo.
I wasn't even going to go there, but her running form is anything but fluid. It's stiff, unnatural and uncomfortable-looking, which probably factors in to most skeptics' views that something is not right here.

That just doesn't seem to be true. Who said all your CV training had to be on pavement? She gets her workouts in and destroys her CV system on the ARC. I admit I would not think that's quite as effective a few years ago, but she is proof that it is. Elite runners differ in talent by microns. You really think she is so talented she can run half of what everyone else does and the X training counts for nothing yet she still runs away with huge dominant wins? That doesn't pass common sense test for me ( would she run 12 flat for 5k if she could run 6 days a week? No). I have this feeling this subject isn't dead, I think you will see more people training this way. Its harder work than just running. Go try to do 2 hours on an arc and tell me its easier than a 8-10 mile easy run. It most def is not. It's utterly horrible.

By that logic if she isnt tired why wouldnt she run faster?
Quite obviously because in any case where something nefarious is being used, it's not a magic bullet, it's an enhancement, and sometimes a dangerous one. Also, because what's happening already looks ridiculous imo. It would look even more so if the gaps to the other competitors were wider than they are.
