I’ve been predicting great things from this team and it looks like they have more in them if they pack ran 1-4. This is my darkhorse for NXN. Along with a very impressive performance by sophomore Kate Foltz of Tuscola with the time of the day 1a-3a in 16:48. She will be tough to beat. I heard someone from milesplit say she also turned at the wrong time in the triangle and had to backtrack, adding 15+ seconds but i’m not sure about the accuracy of that.
Last year, Hinsdale Central was struggling at the beginning of the season because they graduated 3 guys and they were all scorers, and at the state meet things started to click for them. They lost at the state meet by 1 point because their 5th was a little too far back, and at NXR and NXN he closed the gap. That’s why HC beat every Illinois team at NXR and NXN
They have great coaching.

3 months after winning a national championship, our team had it's worst finish at our home XC invite in my coaching career. To get perspective, I thought back to what happened exactly 6 years earlier-and to all that has happened since: https://t.co/5e8zgDvzlh
Noah's dad used to post on all things in the "Mr. Newton Universe" on social media as "Twins" for his two boys on the York team. There were others: one was Greenliner and another was Greenman. Mike Newman was posting in those days (at the time from Ohio where he was living and working) but I don't remember his handle in late 90s early 00s running social media. I remember reading some of what Coach Lawrence posted while he was in the midst of the premature births and trying to coach in between the stress of what his family endured that year. I sincerely admire the coaches in the coaches in the Chicago area. Especially guys like Vandersteen and Lawrence. Some great people who sincerely care about their student-athletes.

It's important to peak AT THE RIGHT TIME. Aug/Sept - who cares.
I was always one of those runners who got bogged down by high mileage & hard workouts at the beginning of the season, but the last three weeks of the season were always magic.
Does anyone know what happened at the Joliet Central Invite? Why are all the boys varsity times so slow?
“Boys Varsity race was longer than 3.0 miles; The first 15 runners in the race took a wrong turn just after the opening mile of the race and had to turn back to get on the main portion of the course.”
Benet also had 3 guys that took a wrong turn and messed up 4/7 York varsity runners, and Oswego was behind the pack and didn't get affected as much as Benet and York. In my opinion York could have won that race easily. They have a freshman running 16:58, 17:30, and 17:46 sophomores running 16:50, and the guy that ran the open race went 17:05 which would have placed him in the top 7, overall the meet was bad because the wrong turn. But mark my word, York is back.
