Sydney is a little heavier this year, but she was really thin last year, so I wouldn't worry about a few more pounds.
But I think this points to Kersee wanting her to run the 400 flat at Worlds, not the hurdles. Kersee wants Sydney to have more sprint strength and she doesn't need as much flexibility this year as she did last year.
Unless Sydney really botches the 400 at USA's (which I don't think she will) Sydney is running the 400 flat at Worlds.
Did the announcer actually say Boling getting out hard for the first 100, just like you need to do?
“The announcer” = 2x World Champion, 1x Olympic champion, American Record Holder (48.70), and has run under 50 seconds 49 times. I think she may know a tiny bit about how to run 400m!

Just because someone was a good athlete doesn't automatically make them a good commentator. Good athletes says strange things all the time.

I’m not talking about quality of commentating. I’m talking about whether Santa Richards Ross is a reliable source on HOW to run a fast 400m. I would say she is.

Well, it's obvious that you don't want to jog the first 100 of a 400. But it's also possible to go out too hard. And Boling went out too hard.
Didn't feel like we learned anything about Mu today, to be honest. If she can't run 1:58.7 comfortably six weeks out from worlds something's really wrong, so all we know is she's fit but not at her best right now, which is to be expected. Hope she makes it to a Diamond league meet before Eugene so she can be pushed.
Also what was up with Ajee Wilson?
I will give another reason. It's a meet in NYC, run in the afternoon and it was basically a solo TT for her because without wavelight the pacing was absolutely atrocious. Yeah there was a reason nobody went with the pacemaker - she ran 58.39 going through 200 in 26.5 seconds.
26.5-31.8 isn't exactly helpful when most coaches are preaching even paced running these days.
I felt like this sets up well for Budapest - Unless KH is going to run 1.54.5 there (she might, who knows) it's a long time for her to hold close to top form. It's still 2 months and 3 days until the 800m final - 1.58.7 in far less than optimal conditions is zero cause for concern.

can't be too critical of a PR, and he didn't tie up terribly. Looked much better today than he has all outdoors.
Is there any evidence that Boling is a serious prospect to make a U.S. Trials final in any event? “Didn’t tie up terribly” and aging LJ PRs are weak sauce.

Boling might make a final at USA's. But he isn't making the team.

It's true that the pacemaker didn't do a good job today.
But FYI, there are no knowledgeable 800 coaches that preach running the first 200 and the second 200 of an 800 evenly. The first 200 is always around 2 - 2.5 seconds faster than the second 200.
Roberts has really come back into form, the 110 hurdles is going to be tough to make with him, Holloway, Tinch, Allen and Cunningham (who looks to have had a pretty rough day today)
Allen is running himself into form. Every race he goes faster. I wish him well.

Holloway has the bye so still room for 3 more, yes?

Thanks for the FYI. I've run a few 800's in my time mate.
When I alluded to "even pace" I meant more in the sense of the entire race - not just the first 200m and I didn't for example mean that in a 2min 800m, the splits would be literally 30-30-30-30.
But for a 58.0 pace job (my guess for today), yes the splits for the pacer should have been 28.0/30.0 so Mu could have been 28.3/30.0 or something like that. Sorry for not explicitly spelling that out for you here.
26.5-31.8 is close to 5 seconds difference. It's horrendous and no wonder that field stayed well off it.
