Are The Ventura Boys On Pace To Be The Best Team In Cali?
“Are the Ventura boys ready to take on California in 2023? If we were to go strictly by the numbers last year, the squad on the coast -- just a few miles from Ventura Beach -- are among the top teams in the state this year. The Cougars return with a team average of 15:50.53 and return their top four runners, including Anthony Fast Horse, who finished fourth overall at the CIF Division 2 Championships last year -- behind three Newbury Park runners. That means Fast Horse is the prohibitive favorite to take a state title in 2023. But will the Ventura boys get there, too?”
I seriously get offended by lazy reporting that simply tries to dump spreadsheet results without any thinking before or after the data dump. This LAZY Milesplit article simply looked for 5K results from last season, thus rendering the list completely meaningless. The reporter didn't bother trying to convert existing 3-mile results or looking for more recent data.
Hence, a known-name like Granada was not on the list of the top 100??? I am sure many big names are also missing. A simple search on XCstats (as linked above) would have shown their recent time-trials, with 3 runners at the 15 min mark for 3-miles.
I think MileSplit will be ignored pretty soon. Just a photo album is all that is left...

He did more then SS so that's a start. Normally very SS focused website. We will see if more than D1 and D2 boys happen. Maybe some girls previews at some point would be nice.
This is much needed, I think. Some very talented girls programs in this state that should be talked about more than in passing or the occasional article here and there.
Since Jesuit got moved to D2, this will give them a good chance to win that division in 2024. Next year they return everyone except for their 5th and 7th runners
Buchanan's Girls, Defending CIF DI Champions, Have Re-Tooled
“There's dominance, and then there's true dominance. The Buchanan (CA) girls exuded that energy in 2022 as they road their high-flying season toward a CIF Division I title with a commanding 40 points, scoring their first five runners inside the top 26 places at the state championships. Of that team, though, only two seniors graduate. What's scarier, though, is the fact that the Bears have now re-tooled up front and return four runners with performances under 18 minutes for 5K. That's bad news for the rest of California, as Buchanan looks to be the strongest girls team in 2023 yet again.”

Seems like prepcaltrack.com provides better content than CA milesplit now
Holy smokes Ventura is stacked also think Granada is underrated at 4 there definitely gonna make noise.
Yes, and Ventura tops my rankings easily, but they are not very deep and they do have injury concerns, so they are very vulnerable. If I had to bet on who the top team will be going into into NXN from Cali, I would take "the field" vs. Ventura. In other words, Ventura has the best chance at being the best, but there is a better chance that it ends up being one of the many other very good teams. I hope that things do go well for them, because if they do they are a definite top 3 contender, and of course I am biased and I want all California teams to do well.

The problem is we need to see how Ventura will adjust to the new coach now that Cruz left.
Dana Hills is another team to watch. They have a very good low stick in Noonan, have depth, return 5 of their top 7, and got a transfer Jayden Hernandez who ran a 9:18 3200

You mean how will they adjust from losing the coach that got their top 3 injured last year? 2 stress fractures and another season ending injury is an impressive coaching accomplishment. That’s a hard act to follow for the new coach.

Ok can anyone inside the team give us a run down how good this team is this year? How many of their top 6 are injured? Is the new coach good? are their goals to win nxn or place top 5 or top 10?
