But it's amazing to me that so many commentators don't seem to understand the point behind these super high standards. There are not to replace the old standards, the main qualification route should be via the world ranking (that can be criticized, I am not fond of it either).
Not only that, but since 2015, only 24 men have run sub 27 PERIOD.
And World Ranking is an even more flawed standard than time. Because now it's up to politics on who gets into what races in what meets to get their points. This is going to make for a lot of athletes, agents and even nations greasing the palms of race directors. I can see WA going the way of FIFA with corruption under this system.
