Thanks for update. Based on this I’d see them as a top 10-15 team at NXN. Not a good sign the 8th grader was #1 runner last year. They need to develop their upper class men more or not run dry by end of season to be a threat to the big distance programs.

Another thing to note is, none of the guys on the team ran the NXN course before December 2022. It’s hard to race well on it the first time. I know the same can be said for almost everyone else on other teams (because no NXN in 2020 or 2021), but 5 of the Belen guys (which is all it takes to score) that raced will be back next year, as long as they all stay on varsity, so they have experience on the course and will know better on how to handle the course. They can explain the course to the guys new to varsity as well.

However your assumption is that this will be the same 5 next year and that is almost always never the case, historically.

American Fork’s non-senior track times Daniel Simmons - 8:53 - 11 Ben Jaster - 9:29 / 4:24 - 11 Ben Bradshaw - 9:54 / 4:25 - 11 Kaden Evans - 9:44 / 4:37 - 10 Chase Pack - 10:04 - 11 (only ran one race, and was #2 at NXN) Maxwell Orr - 10:16 / 4:37 - 10 Austin Plewe - 4:43 - 9 Bridger Karren - 16:39 - 11 - was in the top 7 last year but no track results
These times are not as fast as Southlake Carroll but they have probably been run at altitude
I think that they'll have a really good shot at podium, but it's going to be really hard to beat teams like Southlake, Crater, CDA (if they keep improving on the same trajectory), and Herriman.

American Fork is losing only one senior who is at the same level as their #6. Crater beat American Fork but they are losing Gorze and they are looking to only be 5-deep so their top 5 all need to be on. CDA didn’t even qualify last year. They will qualify but it will be hard for them to beat American Fork, who got 5th at NXN. Southlake Carroll probably has the best, deepest non senior track times but they need to be on at NXN and make sure their track times translate to XC. Last few years they underperformed at nationals. Herriman is losing 4 scorers but is finding people to step up for next year and the coming years. But they are losing a lot more than American Fork. I think they will be Co-favorites with American Fork and Southlake Carroll (if their times translate to XC).

Herriman was 3rd at NXN. Trabuco and Calvert Hall are overrated. Neither will make NXN. AF wins first NXN.
Calvert Hall College placed 5th at NXR (even after graduating most of the varsity), and they return 5 of their top 7 (4 of their top 5) next year Cameron Davis - 11 - 15:15 Rei Nettey - 10 - 15:55 Stephen Gonzalez - 11 - 15:58 Luke Doetschman - 11 - 16:10 Cort Schroeder - 11 - 16:17 Elliott Palmer - 10 - 4:38 Hayden Malstrom - 10 - 4:44 Lucas Archer - 9 - 4:46 Max Larcher - 10 - 10:25i
I think Daniel Simmons should run away with the title.
Bryan Grevious really showed that he can compete with the big guys. He should be able to podium.
Nathan Neil is a junior not a senior. This is also his first year of XC. Used to play soccer. I think he will podium too.
Don’t count out guys like Jimmy Wischusen and Luke Athay who haven’t raced much this season.
Watch out for Sage Wilde too. I was surprised he didn’t qualify for NXN. So many other Midwest guys like Connell Alford, Cameron Todd, and Seth Norder are very good. Many others too.
Heartland was very strong on the individuals side this year. Some to watch next year are Sam Scott, Manny Putz, Aloysius Franzen, Bode Erickson, Clay Shively, Micah Blomker, Robert Mechura, Jack Witte, and Natnael Kifle. Franzen and Erickson are part of a team that will make it. So are Will Weber and Daniel McCollor.
Don't sleep on Evan Noonan of Dana Hills
Also gotta watch out for Anthony FastHorse. Could challenge for top 10 if he progresses the way he is
