Doug Soles coaches Herriman UT now

Give any decent coach that sort of pool of athletes with altitude and a good Mormon work ethic and you can churn out sub 16 boys in your sleep.

People like you said the same thing when he was at GO, but I'm watching GO slowly disentegrate down here in the southern section. They are a shell of what they used to be when Soles was there. Now he takes over at a school nobody has ever heard of (at least I hadn't) and turns them into the top ranked team in the country in less than two seasons of being there and you think it is because he has a good population at the school? That literarlly might be one of the dumbest things I've ever read on here! If you don't like him that is fine with me I was never friends with him. But there is a difference between having a big school and building the best team in the country and you know it.

You sound incredibly foolish saying that. So I guess watching GO slowly dissolve is a 2nd place at the state meet to the Newbury Park the first year with a new coach, a state title the second year, and another definite podium if not another state championship this year. Not saying he isn't a great coach but Great Oak clearly doesn't need him to be great, he barely even coached the boys that were there before he left because of covid.

Sorry, but GO is slowly dissolving and in some areas very quickly. He might have barely coached the current seniors, but they were dragged along for a couple of years by Doug's athletes and culture. Their depth is not even close to where it used to be and this is true in both XC and track. To break that down a bit....the girls teams is nowhere near where it used to be. They could field a B team that was going to place pretty well in the CA state meet if he could've entered 2 teams. I remember the years he would have 10-15 girls under 5:15 and 4-6 girls sub 5. This year they may have 1-2 girls sub 5:15. He would routinely have 6-10 girls sub 11 in the 3200 and last year their best was 11:24. I remember years he had 40+ girls sub 6 in the mile and the girls squad may not have 40 in the distance events next year. After this year major depth problems will affect the boys. I saw enough of GO under the Soles years attending their all comers and distance only meets he put on. It is absolutely not the same. On another note, he cared about every single event in track and since he has been gone....depth in all events are not the same either. Get on athletic.net and see for yourself. I don't even have to look...but it's true. Heck Doug even beat his own GO team last year at NXN in his first year at a new school. Some would argue Soles had 2 teams in the top 10 at NXN last fall.

Great Oak will probably be #1 in CA next year if Westin Brown gets back. They are losing some seniors but all top teams above and below them are losing a lot of seniors too.
