This thread is insane. First of all, altitude does not make a difference in the case of a recovering stress reaction, all it does is stress your cardiovascular system more and thus make your muscles weaker which has absolutely nothing to do with a bone injury that is impact and load based. Second part is that doing high gradient training is perfect for recovery from these kind of injuries because pace is significantly reduced thus meaning much lower impact while keeping heartrate high. Running trails also avoids high impact surfaces like concrete and asphalt.
I'm actually shocked that so many people here don't know that as its pretty common knowledge in both running and med circles, anyone who has even suffered from shin splints should know this. An example from my High-school days is when I was recovering from a broken Tib and Fib, my rehab as prescribed by Doctor and PT was using one of those stair machines.
As for the armchair psychiatrists and psychologists, maybe some of should invest your expert energy of analysis and diagnosis(of someone you don't even know) and have a look into a psychological phenomena of projection and parasocial interactions.
