What's up with Nike's shorts? Kiptoo spent a lot of time keeping things in place.

This is nonsense. Kiptoo will dust Teare in any race above 5k. The only reason Mantz ran away from Kiptoo at ncaas was the 5k title Kiptoo won 2 days before.

Does not say much about Nationals given given that Orton, Steelman and Clairmonte did not race.
Of course it does! This is not a basketball game with a couple starters missing - where their impacts aren't measurable.
Lets say Orton runs, and wins the race. The results are then -
BYU 93 (1, 14, 21, 24, 34)
UNM 98 (13, 16, 17, 25, 27)
NCSU 107 (3, 6, 19, 32, 47)
For the sake of argument, lets assume Clairmonte is will not get into form, and that Latour is who she was today, not who she was at ND. So if Steelman races, all she has to do is place 33rd or higher for NCSU to win, 93-94 over BYU. If she places 10th, NCSU wins 72-97.
You get the picture. Acting like we cant draw any conclusions from this race because those two didnt run is trying t create intrigue where there isnt much, really. NC State definitely looks like the favorite after today.
Oh I agree. NC State is definitely the favorite right now.

Mantz beat Kiptoo @ Griak this year straight up. Unless not going from the gun makes Kiptoo run worse?
Teare was 20 seconds back at 4k, barely in sight. They closed to about 11 seconds at the end because they were sprinting for second and Kiptoo strolled in.
Sorry, in the "orton wins" scenario BYUs fifth should be 33, not 34. Corrected here
From what I understand NC State was using this race as a trial of sorts to see who would suit up in the 4-7 spots going into championship season. Steelman and Clairmonte held out and Shaw is coming back from a minor thing. Starliper will not race this XC season.
I am not saying Mantz can't beat Kiptoo, he clearly can. But those 2 are very close, Teare way back.

Stanford across the board looked flat. I know they start season late, so maybe they just trained right through this race too. Also no Heymach.
JHey scheduled to open her season tomorrow at Santa Clara Bronco meet in Sunnyvale, CA. Get her laces tied up again in prep for post-season.
However, Stanford women were exposed today. ZD getting back in shape and likely will be AA at season's end -- but where was everyone else? Were they tempoing this race? Practicing starting in last place and moving up? At this point, even presuming JHey & ZD get back in top form, Stanford women are going to have to beat some good teams at Pac-12s and West Regional just to make NCAAs.
Stanford men, on the other had, look like a podium team despite some setbacks today. Team was comfortably in front @6k mark but lost it when Boyden blew up the last 2k. Also, didn't help that 7th and 8th runners DNF'd. However, Josh Schumaker may have put himself in contention for that 7th spot with a strong run today in the open race.
Appears OR men not as strong as predicted. Even with Cole Hocker, doesn't look like their a podium team this year.
That's a real shame about Starliper if true. Just goes to show you. She was training with the team preseason so it may be a stress related injury.

Remember when Tommy Curtin of Virginia tech beat king Ches using the same strategy that kiptoo used at pre nats? Like Teare, Ches didn’t care about pre Nats/nuttycomb and dusted Curtin and everyone else when it came to the national championships. Kiptoo is great but at track nationals last year he didn’t perform because he went to the well too many times during the regular season.
What?
And if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. You're only as good as your last race...PERIOD!
Way too much "What if", or "If she ran", blah blah blah... Nice way of wishing your team (NC State) to victory. Make sure to let their coach know your secret formula.
Yeah, NC-State is a huge favorite to win the title this year--would be shocked if they didn't.
But Camp will improve over next month. With that, and Orton, Steelman and everything else the same it is very close.
Uh, OK. So Orton and Steelman are as good as their last races, which is why we can make predictions about how the two teams match up at full strength. It's simply not the case that "this race tells us nothing because they weren't at full strength." Im not wishing anyone to victory, and I'm not sure why discussing plausible scenarios based on past performances made you so worked up.
But if the NC state or BYU coaches want to know my "secret formula"......it would be to not hold out one of your top runners at nationals like they did today.
Lots can change between now and the Xc championship. Still Clairemonte is training with NC State's top group, so her times have to be in that ballpark with Chimel, Steelman and Tuohy. She just has to stay on her feet.
Think about how good this team would have been with Starliper. But that's the sport in this age group. It's a crapshoot.

That's how Connor has been running for a decade plus.
Go check Charlie Hunter’s age…still with eligibility…but who would want to be in college at 25/26? Makes no sense at all.

There are people who go or go back to college in their 30s, 40s, 50s, etc
So, how does Olin Hacker still have eligibility?
