A vast majority of people here are answering this question with 6 > 1 and smaller numbers in a race win, so 1 (Centro) takes it.
I’m NOT ARGUING that first is better than 6th. I’m not saying 1 is less than 6. I’m not saying I would rather be sixth than first in any given race.
What I am saying is that, under these incredibly unique set of circumstances, Hockers 6th place finish is MORE IMPRESSIVE than Centros win in 2016. My reasoning has been outlined previously, and no amount of fingers-in-ears, foot-stomping, temper-tantrum-screaming “THE POINT OF THE RACE IS TO WIN” will change my mind.
Because you haven't actually offered any logical argument on why Hocker's 6th place is better than Centro's win beyond "Centro's win was in a slow race and Hocker's 6th place was in a fast race."
Your initial comments about the field Centro was competing in have been fully debunked -- going into the race, the 2016 field was on paper more competitive than the 2021 field.
The comments about how Centro's time was slow are irrelevant. The comparisons to high school dual meet wins vs state meet 6th places are silly; both the Rio and Tokyo 1500s were Olympic finals. These athletes know they can run fast. They're not running for a PR every race. Accomplishing the objective of an Olympic final (winning against the strongest field in the world) is orders of magnitude more impressive than slicing a second or two off your already world-class PR and finishing off the podium.
Would you still say a random 3:31 6th place finish at a Monaco DL time trial 1500m is more impressive than Centro's Olympic gold? Because that's essentially the argument you've been making the last 8 pages.
