That was the best thing he did... and the most anti-authoritarian thing any recent President has done.

And then you roll the dice on someone. And yes, sometimes justices don't go "the way" their nominator hoped. But I don't think that Presidents end up getting a whole lot of bad historical treatment for that. Folks understand that humans are unpredictable.
Umm... ever heard of George HW Bush? (And David Souter?)
How about Ike and Warren (Or Brennan)?
I guess Nixon got a pass on Blackman because everyone thought he (i.e. Nixon) was a conservative. Ike and Bush 41 did not have the same credential.
Democratic bills are so good even trumpist governors are bragging about them!
Hey trumpies! You're welcome!

Hey, the party of "law and order." Get those njnjas follow a court order!

Here's why trump never tried to stop the January 6 attack - he was in favor of it. Right alongside the oath keeps accused of sedition.
That's what America is up against. A president actively against the law of order and the Constitution.
No exaggeration. The Jan 6 people were fighting to stop a Constitutionally mandated and necessary event.
They failed and were arrested and Trump will pardon them.
The GOP must be destroyed if this country is going to stay a democracy.
CONROE, Texas — Donald J. Trump said on Saturday that if elected to a new term as president, he would consider pardoning those prosecuted for attacking the United States Capitol on Jan. 6 of last year.
He also called on his supporters to mount large protests in Atlanta and New York if prosecutors in those cities, who are
The promise to consider pardons is the furthest Mr. Trump has gone in expressing support for the Jan. 6 defendants.
Kudos to Graham. He will take heat from the January 6 set for this, but good for him.
Sen. Lindsey Graham on Sunday broke with several of his Republican colleagues by seemingly expressing support for President Joe Biden’s pledge to nominate the first-ever Black woman to the Supreme Court.
In an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Graham (R-S.C.) — a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee — also appeared to endorse J. Michelle Childs, a District Court judge in his home state of South Carolina, for the seat held by the retiring Justice Stephen Breyer.
Senate Republicans and conservative commentators have repeatedly criticized Biden for committing to selecting a Black woman to fill Breyer’s seat, with Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) suggesting in a local radio interview Friday that whomever the president picks will be a “beneficiary” of affirmative action.
“In the history of our country,” Graham continued, “we've only had five women serve and two African American men. So let's make the court more like America. But qualifications have to be the biggest consideration, and as to Michelle Childs, I think she’s qualified by every measure.”
Graham distanced himself from Wicker’s remarks on Sunday, saying, “Affirmative action is picking somebody not as well qualified for past wrongs. Michelle Childs is incredibly qualified. There is no affirmative action component if you pick her.”
He was one of the three Rs who voted to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson for the circuit court.
So what are you going to stop this, Gov. Sununu?

I have trouble accepting anything Lindsey Graham ever says. Remember, he was done with Trump before he wasn't done with Trump. Not once, but twice. The first time was his repeated rebukes of Trump during the 2016 campaign and the second time was on January 6th.
Lindsey Graham is not a man of honor and he is not to be trusted. He will be 100% against a Childs nomination as soon as Trump tells him what to do.

That is three more than the zero Democrats who voted to confirm Barrett for the Supreme court. The first time since the mid-1800s that no one from the opposing party voted to confirm a SC nominee. One one Dem senator voted to confirm Kavanaugh. Only 2 Dem senators voted to confirm Gorsuch. Also, Lawrence Tribe, an advisor to Biden, doesn't think Harris could cast the deciding vote to break a 50-50 tie. He says VPs can't break ties on appointments, only on legislation. What a mess that would be to have a 50-50 tie and not be able to break it. Though I think maybe a handful of Repubs will vote to confirm if not to liberal.
Trump said it out loud today - that Pence should have "overturned" the election.
Just said it, out loud.
Time to choose between American democracy and Republicans.
I fear this nation will not choose democracy.
Peter Baker

Old enough to remember when it would have been shocking to see a former president admit that his goal was to have "overturned the Election."
I doubt Biden has any say on who becomes the next Supreme Court nominee. He is brain dead at this point.

right wing media for rubes didn't carry it, but Biden had a two hour press conference last week.
but sure, the rubes aren't aware of it, like they aren't aware that the economy had its strongest growth in 40 years in 2021.
Because right wing media for rubes doesn't tell them.
You go on being a rube. Seems to suit you well.
So daily deaths from Omicron have exceeded daily deaths from Delta.
Less vicious a virus, but when you infect so many millions more, you get more deaths.
Was it this thread where some people argued the death count for this wave would not exceed the death count from the last wave?
we're still nowhere near the January 2021 peak tho. Maybe that was the discussion.
Now: 2165 deaths per day
then; 3567 per day
Ther twist that will make this hard to measure is Florida...that state reports so very slowly that we won't know the true death toll from this wave for a couple months after the peak happens. right now FL's 7 day death count *as reported* is 13 per day but the *real number* is no doubt in the hundreds.

I was on a road trip at the time and I listened to the entire 2 hour Biden press conference. Biden was extremely impressive. Biden is old, but he showed tremendous stamina in thoughtfully answering question after question in what became the longest presidential press conference in US history.

He is a walking corpse at this point.
Trump just said that Kamala Harris has the right to choose the next president. Looks like Biden has 2024 all locked up.
Two actual conservatives condemn the GOP. We need to put quotes around Trumpist voters when we call them 'conservatives' to show that they aren't real conservatives - they are like the Germans who voted in the Nazis in the 30s - for violence, state terror and authoritarian government. Not in favor of rights...just in favor of their own power and authority.
Liz Cheney
@Liz_Cheney
Trump uses language he knows caused the Jan 6 violence; suggests he’d pardon the Jan 6 defendants, some of whom have been charged with seditious conspiracy; threatens prosecutors; and admits he was attempting to overturn the election.
He’d do it all again if given the chance.
Fred Wellman
@FPWellman
If you pick the side with the people who stormed our Capitol, anti-government fascist militias, and actual Nazis then I know exactly where you stand politically and I don't need to try to work with you. We need to defeat you just like my Dad did in WWII.
Lady G is a strange character. I am convinced anything not trumpist or RINOish that comes out of his mouth is 100% driven by skeletons in his closet. He will come out of nowhere with something reasonable sometimes... makes no sense on the surface. Btw - for a lot of these Rs its just normal to have multiple political personalities, one that they use to appease more reasonable voters and the other when they go on FOX.
