Those empty rallies with a few dozen chairs to hear Uncle Joe mumble sure did secure my faith in 81 million votes.
...Because you don't have a sense of the fed-up-ness that motivated people to vote against President Trump.
As someone who never--as in, never--votes on the Democratic line but lives in the heart of NYC, I had a very good chance to see how many (and how much) people just wanted President Trump gone. I didn't see much enthusiasm for Ol' Joe (actually seeing somewhat more now--some people like some of the stuff his administration has done), but a ton of eagerness, if not desperation, to get The Donald out of the White House.
And my extended family, strewn all across this country (literally Maine to Hawaii and Florida to Alaska), reported the same thing.
The thing that sealed my opinion of Trump, and I'm absolutely sure I'm not alone on this, was (1) his private behavior prior to, during and after the 2020 election that we have now become aware of, and (2) his public behavior after the 2020 election. I think he doesn't get at least 7-10 million of his 74.1 million votes if people knew on 11/3/20 what they know about Trump now.
These Indictments will keep all that in people's mind on 11/3/24 and Trump has no chance of approaching 74.1 million votes again. After 11/3/24 we can hopefully and finally be rid of him. As Tucker Carlson (prematurely) said "We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights. I truly can't wait."
The Trump presidency was an epic failure. He was handed a growing economy and turned into 15%+ unemployment, food bank lines around the block, you couldn't even buy toilet paper. Dude destroyed everything he touched. How people don't remember things that happened just a few years ago is beyond me.

funny. i remember paying $28 to fill my gas tank and a month after leaving office it was over $60.

I don't outsource my financial well being to whatever political party is in the White House. Sorry to hear you've made bad decisions in life and these minor things have such a severe impact on you.

You’re right. I think the American people can easily overlook 74 felony indictments to save a few bucks at the gas pumps.

This does belong on the Trump thread in case the answer is political tit-for-tat. Can someone say in an intelligent and informed manner, why Hunter's situation needs involvement from the Attorney General? The actual accusations that have stuck seem to be things most ordinary citizens could have trouble with. not paying taxes and lying on a gun permit document. In our case, as ordinary people, the crimes would be adjudicated without all this high-level DOJ stuff and court-ordered special counsel and whatnot.

the people who lie on gun permits tend to be the same people who commit mass murders. cruz. the joker. these are the people who need to be monitored much closer and are the ones causing strife for democrats. "guns kill, guns kill, guns kill!!", no. people who lie on gun permits kill

My kids graduated from college both both got very well paying jobs. In past years good paying jobs were not easy for new college grads to find. Also I am doing very well financially. Biden has done right by me.
No one forced me to protect myself against covid with a vaccination. Years ago my kids did get vaccinations before they started elementary school.
Noyankee, I am sorry things have been tough for you financially since Biden became president.

blah blah blah. people that rein praise on their children have children that dont deserve praise, of course you are controlled by the Regime. then you forced it on your children who will forever live with your horrible decision. and you better believe they think of your actions.
things are great here. my point is economics which you have no comprehension of.

The Special counsel is more a public relations move. It allows Garland to distance the DOJ from a hotly politicized criminal investigation.
The tax and gun charges against Hunter Biden are very weak. Good luck getting a unanimous decision by a jury to convict for tax delinquency after he already paid the taxes back! And the witnesses are discredited. And FBI agents swore under oath that the DOJ superiors felt there was insufficient cause to charge. Oopsy!
FBI Agents don’t bring charges anyway. it’s like a cop saying I wanted to charge but the DA said I did not have a case. It is meaningless and will get crushed by a defense attorney.
if they don’t find more dirt on Hunter this will be a big nothing burger. And that’s why the crazy GOP caucus is livid with the special counsel decision.

And the special counsel needs to provide declination decisions as well. Normally prosecutors can't disclose why certain charges were not brought, which some politicians use as never-ending talking points.

Slightly curious how you came to imagine “rein” was the one to go with here. Like through controlling the reins you determine how much praise they get?
This makes me curious as to whether either of Trump's two diehards in this thread can name a single selfless act attributable to the man in any of his capacities, public or private.
...
That's too easy.
Donald gave the Trumpettes' lives meaning. How much more selfless could he have been?

If you want to apply economic analysis to the price of gas under Trump and Biden you have to consider that gas prices under Trump were depressed due to COVID's effect on the world economy, and rose rapidly as the world emerged. It had little to do with Trump (who still hasn't figured out tariffs) or Biden.

He is paying for Nauta's legal fees from his Save America PAC. Isn't that selfless? How would Nauta pay if not for the Trump PAC?
How about donating his presidential salary back to the government? He could make more money by charging the government for the secret service protection at his own properties. So he didn't need any salary. How selfless was that?
Matt Gaetz in Iowa with Trump at his side actually calls for the use of FORCE to claim back the government from the Dems. The crowd loved it. Trump learned nothing from his legal problems and is a criminal to the core. They are fostering violence and basically sedition.

Normally, this wouldn't be a relevant ask of the supporters of any high profile figure, but Trump's supporters are quite adamant that he does what he does specifically for the forgotten and dispossessed-- in other words, people very much unlike himself.
And don't just list his policies and broad aims. All politicians have these, yet no one tries to claim they do what they do to specifically aid the powerless and forgotten. They all claim to be trying to make the country better for everyone, whilst Trump claims to be the representative specifically of those having difficulty helping themselves.
Aside from the libidinal thrill Trump's anti-lib and zenophobic rhetoric gives some ordinary people, I can't see that anything he did as President (very much less as businessman) helped anyone but himself and people like him. The only thing that ever comes to mind among his deeds as President is the giant tax cut that disproportionately benefitted the wealthy.
Getting ordinary people to think he genuinely cares about them might be the most magical of all Trump's many grifts.
Here is the funny and pathetic thing. Trump rushed the covid vaccine out quickly and the vaccine saved lives. Granted every President would have done exactly the same.
Keep in mind that Trumps motive with all things Covid was to get the economy going again fast to get re-elected. (100% Personal benefit- remember when he wanted low reported Covid numbers because they were making him look bad)
Ironically, this is one thing that he could claim was done for the good of others, but he can’t because he diminished and downplayed Covid so much that he helped create the antvax movement. Many of his supporters are antivax and think covid is a hoax because he told them it was.
isn’t that a kick in the teeth to Mr Trump?
This is the strategic problem with the GOP's lying. In the rare occasions they do something good for the country, they can't even take credit so they don't contradict themselves and anger the base.
I remember Romney performing impossible gymnastics trying to discredit himself for his awesome job implementing universal health care (obamacare) as governor of MA. He was one that had to completely dumb everything down and swim in the mud of insanity to win the nomination.

Matt Gaetz a great American and protected by US Marines voting him in. Remember the fake kidnapping story you freaks tried on him?
Shocker - two sexual predators sticking up for each other. For your own sake I hope you are just trolling and don't actually respect vile scum of the earth like MG the child sex trafficker.
