Anybody wager a guess as to how much a 2:30s guy could expect to be able to run in a pack?
I ran 2:34 there one year and felt like I was in a pack for 80% + of the race.

I usually wear 2XU calf guards/sleeves. Aside from any discussion about whether they have any effect or not - what does everyone thing about wearing them in potentially steady rain on Monday? I'm concerned they might make my calves colder and therefore I'll be worse off . I'm accustomed to wearing them all the time, but I can't recall wearing them in a cold, soaking rain. Thoughts?

There are a couple of kind of 2xu calf sleeves. The compression style ones should be fine. I will be wearing mine. I will also be wearing arm warmers. Going for the tightest knit possible to keep them from holding water.
Great. Getting colder, windier, and more head-windy.

Latest forecast, for 10 a.m. start Is 48 with rain and high wind gusts in your face.
Welcome to Boston.
I won't be in Boston.
I bailed and saved travel and hotel expenses.
Rain with a cold wind is not my idea of a pleasant day.
I'll be toasty warm on Monday.
Boston weather is AT BEST a 50/50 for decent conditions. Adds to the mystique I suppose.

Hopefulky, this weather will weed out most of the porcine 4-hour plus "charity" crowd clogging the roadways till after dark.
Most will be found in their hotel's bar, drinking Chardonnay, watching it on tv and talking about what might have been.
Looks like we’re once again getting the sh!t end of marathon weather roullette. Oh well. Time to man the F up. No more whining please.

What it’s going to weed out is the spectators, which make this race so special. I won’t be there this year (dodged a bullet, judging by the forecast) but I do understand everyone freaking out about running into a rainy headwind; running 26 miles in shitty weather SUCKS! I’d do it anyway if I already spent the money on the flight etc but that doesn’t make it easier to “suck it up”.
hourly at accuweather now has 21mph direct headwinds at the start w a 26 degree realfeel lol
I gotta wonder if they'll cancel if the course ends up being a sheet of ice

The current forecast isn’t bad. It’s not anything like what they forecasted 2007 right up to the morning of the race and it turned out fine by the time the race started.
I’ll take 2007 conditions over 2012 every time.
Are people seeing the same thing? 42 at the start, wind ENE 15-25mph the whole way. Real feel is mid-20s/low-30s. How are people dressing for this? Orginially thought I would be able to take a stab at sub-2:40 but I think sub-2:50 might actually be good based on the conditions.
I wore a singlet, arm-warmers, shorts, headband, and gloves for my tune-up race, which was 34 degrees with a 15 MPH headwind for much of the course. I felt perfectly dressed. So I'm doing similar for this one (except adding a hat).
If it's raining at the start, I'll probably start with a poncho and a thin longsleeve on top of those, and toss both a few miles in. I want to be comfortable to slightly warm at the start, because if I'm chilled, it will be harder to fight the urge to go out too fast.
Well at least the race isn't on Sunday?
