No kidding, at that age consistency is tough. But yet two years in row, winning on good days and bad.

The girl's summary says nothing about the girl's race at all.
Meanwhile there's a full write up on the front page about the boys race which followed it.

Um, he finished 2nd to last after being at the front at the mile.

Probably just a hyperlink mishap. Since the boys recap has the girl's linked at the bottom.
2 TIME FOOTLOCKER CHAMP GET'S s*** TALKED ABOUT HER IN A NEGATIVE WAY, ONLY ON LET'S RUN!

It's obvious that Claudia's sickness affected her times - there's no reason someone would run so much faster then last year on all the same courses EXCEPT the one that really matters. Seemed like she determined she couldn't take down the CR early on, saved her energy and just made sure she could win. Smart choice, plus it's good to have a goal for the senior year.
Shut up, stop the excuses. She had her break through race last year at FL, and that is where she stays. She was not sick, she is not that good, she did not let up, she raced hard all the way, that is what she does.
She did great today. She improved her time from last year by 1 or 2 seconds despite running with a sore throat. I think she did a great job today. Last year was a real break out race, probably like a 10/10 race where you feel like a million bucks. Today seemed like she had an average day but she's so much better than the rest of the field that on an average day with a sore throat she still wins by 19 seconds. I'm looking forward to her and Tuohy going at it at Mt Sac this year in the 3200m. And if we're lucky we can get a Footlocker showdown between them next year as well.
Somehow I really doubt Tuohy or Lane will be running the 3200m at Mt SAC this coming season. Mt SAC doesn't even have a track. If anything it'd be at Arcadia or at one of the National Invites after the regular season ends. Either way, unless something changes dramatically they aren't in the same league on the track. They'd probably need to race a 10K or further for Lane to have a chance.

Ok
Tuohy is number 1
Lane is number 2
Chmiel is number 3. I say that because she beat Lee (4th at FL) by 45 seconds earlier this season. Chmiel most probably would have beaten Lane today. Lane had a very bad day.
Then I give 4th to Heart.
Hard not to give 5th to Theis.
But I would have been nice to see Heart and Theis at NXN. I'm not convinced that I'm right.
Could they possibly get invites to meet at Millrose indoor girls HS mile? I'd think the shorter the race, the greater the edge for Tuohy. At the 1-mile distance, however, its not clear that either would win.

You Cali guys are in for a shock.
Touhy is in a class by herself, she may very well run sub 4:30 for the full mile this winter. Maybe closer to 4:25.

Hart was at NXN and got 4th.

I can certainly believe Touhy will dominate on the track. However, you have to understand what a beast Lane is. Her time at Mt. Sac this year in XC is superior to anything Touhy has done. It simply is. At FN today however, Lane was a bit sick from running in smoke at home this week where one of the worst wildfires in California history is raging nearby. And take note as well that the conditions today in San Diego were crap. Another major wildfire is happening in San Diego County as well as very warm temps for December. And I'm sure Lane setting major records twice in the past 2 weeks wasn't conducive to a major effort today.
Sorry surfer dude, the weather was fine, there was no smoke, it was clear as Cali can be. She was not sick, keep making Cali excuses.
If she was tired from racing too hard the past two weeks, whose fault is that?? Did she need to win by a minute? That is on her and her coach, train smart and race smart?
BTW, what Touhy did at VCP and Bowdoin is superior to Lane anywhere.
Again the broadcast today was GREAT!! To anybody complaining about the announcers I have one question. Are you too stupid to just mute the sound?
Also, I don't know why you numbnuts keep trying to decide which meet is better or that one needs to go away. Anytime there is MORE opportunity for kids to compete, it is better.

Not so sure that having more opportunities to compete is always a good thing.
There are coaches and athletes who will go after every race and not stop till it is broken.
Kind of like using an eraser too much, it wears down eventually and you don't get it back.
Be careful what you wish for.
California coach here. I agree anyone who thinks Tuohy isn’t in a class of her own right now doesn’t understand what they’re watching.
If Lane never gets faster than she is now she will still have an awesome collegiate career. If Tuohy never gets faster than she is now she could still contend for an individual title in the 1500.
First repeat champ? Rohrer? Hasay?
This is the problem with having a forum that uses a 100 year old format; no ability to edit. It should have said "back-to-back". Rohrer had two years between her wins and Hasay had three. Erin Sullivan won back-to-back in 97 and 98, but in Orlando.

Wow, that was close to being the slowest FL winnng time (just 3 seconds off). That record is still held by Cormier.
Very true, but every time Cormier looks at his championship crystal (the award at the time), he smiles and says, "I WON! I WON! I WON!!!!!" There's little or no shame in having the slowest winning time in a race, because it's FIRST which counts. For ever and ever, Dylan Jacobs will look at his reflection in the engraved peanut dish thingy handed to him for his first-place finish and say, "I WON! I WON! I WON!!!!!"
How many boys over the years have run faster times than "slowpoke" Ken Cormier's 15:22 on the Balboa Park course but who lost his race? 179!! 179!! I counted 'em (on a got-no-life Saturday night). Cormier WON!!
Incidentally, the Foot Locker website's list of past champions (
http://www.footlockercc.com/history/alltimeboychamps.php) indicates that last year's boys winner, Reed Brown, was in 6th grade! Dang, Reed "Doogie Howser" Brown is now in college! A child prodigy in running and in the classroom, I guess.
Great thread but would be nice to see the #1 HS girl runner's name known better: Katelyn Tuohy, not Touhy.
