Guilty as charged, rightly or wrongly, depending on your point of view, a scam has definitely been perpetrated, whether nefarious or not is yet to be decided.
scam
noun
informal
a dishonest scheme; a fraud.
nefarious
adjective
(typically of an action or activity) wicked or criminal.
So Andy has confirmed it was a scam, not on the scale of Dave Reading, but a scam non the less, which explains why, apart from his donation page, he was keeping it very quiet, he didn't want it to get found out and go viral.
So OK, he apologized, still doesn't make it right, especially considering it was premeditated and he knew it was wrong. This seems to be the MO these days with anything premeditated "Ah, if you're caught out just apologize and you'll be right".
So does this mean he's banned for life from the London Marathon.
