Jerry holds inside position like a boss. Leads from gun to tape. The music in the video is trash, but at least you can't hear that stupid announcer.
This race, and the 4x400 at indoors last year, show that's he's insanely competitive and will immediately react to any move. Which is why someone smart is going to wait and duck past him at the line at conference this year. Don't let him react.
Of course they'll have to be really close to as fast as him because, like Hornor, he doesn't take conference easy.
You can't wait and duck around Jerry. There's only one guy in the conference who can run with him.
IMO Klamm can take him in the 600, Krause in the 800, Coffey clearly can in the 1k, Hatton maybe in the 1k after his cross country season, and Coffey, Eggers, and good-Bjork could beat him most of the time in the mile.
Good Bjork?? That guy appears once a year at the last chance meet. Bjork and Eggers are not on Donson's level. Get off your boys' jocks.
I'm obviously impressed with Donson's race as he held off Coffey and showed savvy race strategy. But I am also impressed with Coffey. He ran the last 400m in lane 2. Of course that wasn't smart and he probably could have raced smarter, but to take Donson to the wire while running out there for so long is really says alot about his fitness.

You have basically two moves in the 1k. Maybe one to sure up, and then one to go for home. Coffey tried hard to get by Donson with 300, then with 200, then with 100, and each time Donson reacted and held him off. By the time they got to the home straight, Coffey was gassed. Had he just waited until the final straight or given it everything with 160 to go to get by on the back straight it might have been different. Strategy is everything between two guys who are so equally matched at that distance.
I think for Coffey (a mile-5k type) to take this 1k he would need to burn one of his moves early, from maybe 500-600m out, far enough that DCG wouldn't think to keep him out in lane 2. Continually click 29lows to either give himself some distance from DCG, or hopefully run the explosion out of DCG. Otherwise, as seen in this video, DCG has no problem changing gears and keeping Coffey to the outer lane.
Evan Jones making a strong case for worst/best? hair and most out of shape at the Ole meet tonight.
I don't even have to be there to tell you that Bjork undoubtedly won that award. Again.
So whats St. Olaf's training like? I've heard the rumors of big mileage and super hard workouts, but what actually is the deal over there? Also, whats the standard training for the oles?
Ha, nice try runningaddict. I'm sure those secrets are under lock and key.
I agree, Jones looked pretty slow compared to what he's done in the past. I'll give him a slight pass considering the heat he was in, but still. Same goes for his teammate, Knobbe.
The Olaf meet as a whole wasn't too terribly interesting with Olaf's A squad all running tomorrow at the U. The mile was decent but not all that exciting. Berhe look surprisingly good in the 3K. Klamm looked fast. Really fast. So did the younger Klamm. Fredrickson looked good. 4x4 went about as expected.
Anything interesting I missed?

These are the same question....
Holy Crap! "Fredrickson looked good"?? I just looked it up and he ran 1:21.02! Following his 1:55, we are seriously undershooting how much this man has improved. He is encroaching what Donson ran last indoor season, and he was 4th in the country!
As for the mile, that looked like it was a surprisingly great race. I look forward to seeing the race video on the Oles cross country youtube channel (I am beginning to really like their stuff..no shame..). Austin Knowlton might be a dark horse name I have never heard of. 8th last year, so it would be reasonable.
It was nice to see Berhe run a respectable 3k like we all thought he could run. I assume Lehn was just running through the meet and getting his 2nd 3k in for the 5k conference conversion. Paul Timm...nice to have you back. As for Thomas Knobbe, DUDE, what the heck??
And I think Evan Jones gets a pass for running solo.
Finally...can we please talk about Bethel's 400m guys?? They have 3 different relay times in the top 20 in the nation..Their best relay so far is 4th in the nation.
Half of the GAC squad is hurt. Dammann is the only Gustie operating near full strength. Berhe and Fredrickson were the MVPs tonight.
Jake Campbell is done. The U destroys talented distance runners. Nice run for Coffey. LRC favorite son Paul coming through with a nice performance. Is he using his gap year solely to bang out tempo runs on the river road?

So who again is kyle fredrickson? Baby klamm in 50 flat is expected but good. Coffey in 4:08 is impressive. Donson in 1:23? Baby donson in 51? What's up with them? Manni looked as good as ever how well will he do at nats? Solid 3k for berhe. Interesting weekend for the miac.
