Well done, sir! Thanx for coverage!!
Thanks guys!
Rupp went for it. They basically were 60 flat until 818 remained? So maybe a 2:05 last 800 and then add in the extra 18 meters

No surprise when you are running 8:00 pace through the first 2400+. I was a little surprised they went out that aggressive tbh. I expected 4:04 type split
Just missed Tegenkamp's outdoor NR.
Looks like they went for 8:04 !! Crazy folks...btw Rupp's now faster than Mo at this distance.
The fact that sub-8 was a possibility until the last three laps is just incredible. This is a career year for Galen Rupp.

Just like I was telling the delusional people on the 13:01 thread, you have to run negative splits for 2 mile to run your best time. There is nothing wrong with going for it though as that tells exactly where you are at fitness wise. As you were giving the splits and they were right on 60 a 400, I knew that would cost Rupp a couple seconds in the end. It is a great achievement regardless. If he could run this race again in 2 weeks, he could go 4:04 and close in 4:01 or 4:02. Just my opinion.
Daniel Komen went through his first 1600m in 3:54-55 and still finished his last 800 meters under 2:00. Just goes to show how talented Komen was. The best 3/5k runner of all time.
Puts Rupp at 6th all time!
1. 8:04.35 Kenenisa Bekele
2. 8:04.69 Haile Gebrselassie
3. 8:06.48 Paul Kipsiele Koech
4. 8:06.61 Hicham El Guerrouj
5. 8:07.39 Eliud Kipchoge
6. 8:07.41 Galen Rupp

They basically went after 8:00. 3:59.6 I believe was given split at the mile.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
