Also interesting that he missed a ton of time indoors in his freshman year with Achilles tendinitis, meaning he's been dealing with the same injury for going on 10 years now.

Then if it is not the injury his recent performances are simply inexpicable.
when he did that 1:20 600m indoor time trial he looked good, fast, controlled and well on his way back.
maybe its the pressure to come back?
maybe its married life?
maybe its preparing to be a father?
i dont know...but i hope webb figures it out. When he was running good it made me enjoy my own running more.
Sub 4 implied that after he left Michigan he developed an eating disorder. Lear talks about how he started severely restricting his eating and getting very ritualized with workouts and drills until he got appendicitis or whatever and had to relax and started eating pizza. I wonder if he has a binge eating disorder now, as happens to people who have severely restricted - there were all the jokes in 2008 about him eating Chinese etc., then he went to Alberto and he talked about cutting Alan's junk food and he lost a ton of weight, now he's back up in weight...if we're speculating about causes of seemingly inexplicable poor performance, years of binge eating and purging cycles, restricting and then eating junk would really affect the body and eventually lead to a physical breakdown...could this be the cause of the uneven performances we've seen out of Alan?
If he were a woman people would more readily consider whether eating issues were behind the weight fluctuations...
Sounds more like OCD to me.
its alright,
webb entered the Mt. Sac Mile on Friday
Maybe he's messing with everone's head, not just his opponents but the crowd right here. Letsrun.
Playing up some good workouts. Tanking races. Getting a bunch of stupid running geeks all in a tizzy and superior-feeling, only to blast out some fast races by mid season.
Then he can get on flotrack and youtube and make fun of everyone.
All that running a 3:54 does is make people believe it is over for him at the elite level. It is the slowest time I can remember run by a elite runner since Seneca Lassiters 1:55 800 at the tail end of his career.

i think adam goucher talks about running a 3:55 as a 1500 opener in 2004 in '5000m: Nothing Comes Easy'. 2004 didn't turn out to be a great year for adam either.
Manzano has run that kind of time in the same season as running 3:32.
That's true, but I really think Leo's the only guy who has these epic fail races that are completely unlike the rest of his seasonal performances.

Alot of good comments in this thread. Webb as the American record holder clearly has the talent. These were early season times and he was training through the meet. Imagine how good a runner has to be to hold an American record. The season has yet to begin and many are writing Webb off.
I guess Ill throw in my two cents. But after having viewed Webb's 1500 meter race, it almost seems like he purposely fades the last 400 meters. He came through in 2:51 right? He let everyone fly by him. Some are reporting that he did a workout right after...if that is true...maybe he really did fly over to Florida to practice pace work.
I duno. I guess Im still trying to be optimistic about the whole situation.
Is he really listed in the MT. Sac 1500 meter race?
I saw his name on the confirmed entry list for Mt. SAC.
Can you provide the link to the Mt Sac entry list. I really hope he just runs decent....
I'm with a lot of others on this forum...when he's running good I enjoy my own running even more.
Found the link myself...fingers crossed he shows up to run.
225 people in the 1500???? dang thats like 15 heats
Webb better run fast, or hes going to have trouble even getting into meets anymore.

Speaking of which, will he be included in the special Mt. SAC "Puma 1500" section of the 1500, reserved for the best non-collegians?
I was in attendance at FL Relays and he looked terrible, honestly. I felt bad for the guy. HIs fades didn't look intentional at all.
A few friends of mine found him after the 1500 and got some signatures from him and they said something like, "Good races," and Webb replied with something like, "Don't say that." and didn't look too happy.
I personally think its a mental block he needs to get over.
Has anyone thought that he may be suffering from severe depression? Depression not only hurts emotionally, but also has psychical side effect, like extreme fatigue. His outbursts last year after the Boston indoor race almost resembled a bipolar episode.
