I dont think that anyone that worries about overpopulation is worried about there not being enough room on the planet for everyone, but rather the strain on the earth's resources which are much more limited than her size. The problem is not fitting everyone, but feeding everyone, clothing everyone, vaccinating everyone, preventing everyone from polluting too much etc. etc. That is a pretty interesting fact though. It really brings home what a big damn place this world is.
Rice Eater,
You heart's in the right place, but the ONLY reason there are starving people in this world is because in war torn nations and dictatorships, the supply chain for food is held up to either punish the people or because rebels of some sort are holding up the food distribution as a power play. With the way the civilized world creates food these days, there is NO shortage of food at all, and in fact there is an overabundance of food - just need other countries to emulate the good old United States of America to see that being without food just isn't a problem.
And, yes of course there are some people in this great country of mine who have a hard time making ends meet, but real starvation isn't a big problem for anyone in this country unless they are mentally ill or addicted to drugs. Soup kitchens still get tons and tons of people there every day, and you know why? Because it's free. Most of those people then go home to their fully furnished apartments, crack open an ice cold Bud, heat some microwave popcorn in their microwave and sit on their couch to flip through the 100 or so channels their cable gives them.
For those people on the planet who are constant victims of famine, I'll borrow from the great Sam Kinnison and say "MOVE TO WHERE THE FOOD IS!!!"
