Someone upthread pointed out that USA's SF lineup would have won with their time from yesterday - of course that's assuming they could recreate it in these conditions and with this pressure, but still that's eye opening.
Maybe taking the 4-7 guys at trials (or at least three of the 4-7 group if there's a proven relay guy among the three runners who made open 100) is the way to go. They can get to the WC or Olympics as part of the pool and then just practice intensely leading up to the relay, getting a good exchange rhythm.
Totally; SML would have more than had her hands full here. Paulino looked to me to shutting it down before the line; maybe I'm overestimating what that cost her but that sure looks like it could have been just under 48 if she would have run all the way through the line.

I haven't looked at the splits, but Courtney Lindsey always looks great in these. He slayed the anchor in the semis.
Absolutely awful. How hard is it to watch until the guy hits the tape and go? Bednarek was so early and Kerley looked like he was starting the long jump with those slow first steps.
It is a lot harder than many of you think.
As the incoming runner approaches, everything is magnified as there are a ton of guys bearing down on you. As they approach everything is magnified and a flight or fight dynamic kicks in. So relay practice does two things. It helps to figure out the optimal place to put your mark and curbing of the flight syndrome.
Secondly there can be a bit of confusion if incoming runners are dressed similarly. You can leave early if you mistake the approaching runner as your team mate.
