We prefer to have 1 thread per subject matter and have merged three threads into 1. The 2nd thread was entitled, "Why does Jakob talk so much trash?" The third thread was titled, "New Jakob Interview: Olympics should be “a walk in the park”, calls some competitors “a**holes and idiots”:
Yeah I didn't know if this was just clickbait or trolling but it's 100% not - direct quote
"I think some people are just erm, a$holes and being idiots".
Wow. Ironically, he immediately then says "for me it's all about myself and the sport of running and trying to be as good as I can be" - but of course the irony is that it's clearly more than that or you wouldn't be so concerned with people to the point of calling them a$holes and idiots.
I said this a while ago on the large thread Rojo posted about Jakob comments on his WR aspirations etc, this more than ever sounds like a 23 year old kid trying to find himself and just not having the experience or emotional intelligence to articulate it the right way. And we've all been there at some point in our life. I mean he's really living an insular existence - he grew up in a town of 70'000 people, all he's ever done in his life is run and excel in what is lonely sport where you are constantly in your own head. I think he would probably love to get on with a guy like Josh Kerr (who surely he is referencing) and there is probably a part of Kerr's journey that Jakob wishes he had something similar - like a college experience in the US, not being in this weird (and as we know at times abusive) family-exclusive training group.
I just feel like those comments in particular are more reflective of sadness and frustration vs anything malicious, even though they come off as being super unnecessary on the surface. He's a great runner and one of the greatest we've ever seen already in his short career - but everything comes at a cost. Everything.
we have all been there?
wait a second. multiple world records and world titles. olympic gold.
no my dude, you me and pretty much everyone else have not all been there
It doesn't matter if we haven't been there. The best sometimes lose - as he has - so for him to talk as though winning is a foregone conclusion shows he hasn't learned from experience. Nothing in sports is a foregone conclusion.

The best sometimes lose - as he has -
I agree, he is the best, even in an event which is clearly too short for him. But he is not so dominant that he wins all the races especially if hi is not completely fit or an opponent runs the race of his life.
Good to see you finally agree he is the best - which to anybody else was obvious.
This is another rephrasing of the one thing he says over and over again. "I am the best so I will win". It is not new or interesting each time he says it. It is expected, it is the only thing he says when asked.
It does not matter that he loses sometimes, he will continue to say it. Does not matter how much he believes it or not, he is not backing off the position now.
FWIW Kerr will always say the same thing too, with a little more modesty, approximately "I am good enough to win the race".
It would be fitting if Nuguse or Hocker would win Olympic gold. It would shut both of them up for a minute
Kerr would accept defeat with some class... as for Jakob, well we've seen how it goes.
I have a feeling Jakob will whine about Kerr not running a bunch of paced races that he'll be in. Kerr has all the reason to avoid racing Jakob until the Olympics.. it'll turn Jakob into a anxious nutjob and Kerr doesn't need to be in WR shape to feel confident. Jakob on the other hand is going to follow the same play book as always. Not saying it hasn't been a good one, just that he's more vulnerable than ever in the 1500.

I didn't say he was the best - I said the best will lose sometimes, which means he certainly will and does.

It's an obvious conclusion:
Armstrong: The best sometimes lose - as he has.
conclusion: For you - as for anybody else - he is the best.
nuguse could totally win. he's run 3:43 ffs. you guys really think kerr and wightman can run 3:43? no shot. now this is an olympic 1500 of course not a mile time trial but my point is nuguse should in theory be better in a fast race. if jakob time trials it and makes some energy-wasting moves in the middle and nuguse is there with 200 to go.....

It is only obvious to someone who can't follow what is being said. The best can lose; that others can also lose doesn't make them the best - just another loser.
Starting at 10:00 he says defending his Olympic title should be a walk in the park if he doesn’t get sick or injured, and appears to take a shot at certain competitors again. Thoughts?
And, as usual, if he loses he will say he was sick or injured.
Exactly. I guess the way to go is to say, "I'm injured or sick" in the pre-race interview, then he can say, "wow, these guys really do suck, I’m sick or injured and I still won." And if he doesn't win, well...
It will never be Nordås who beats him. Nordås is coached by his father and in this Olympic season his father is coaching against his own son. Most people seem to be ignoring that dynamic and hyping Kerr. I can't imagine the pressure he is under not only to beat all his competitors, but to beat his own father. Anyone who has watched all of the Team Ingebrigtsen episodes and examined that relationship will understand. There is a lot going on in his head and thinking about a single competitor may be the least of it.

Since it is unlikely to be "a walk in the park" he will be sick or injured.
