Anything is possible but Mechaal’s progression is suspicious as hell to me. The year he turned 28 his personal best was 3:34.70 and at 30 he runs 3:30.77. Who knows?
That’s fair. Superspikes factor a little (maybe 1-1.5 seconds), he did run 7:35 pre-superspikes in the 3,000. There’s no denying his progression and late-blooming career is Mo Farah-esque. He did miss tests early in his career, but was cleared and nothing since:

Interesting take. If the superspikes are worth 1.5 seconds, which could be the case, that would place Mo Farah’s 1500m best at 3:27.31 in those spikes, not far off Jakob. Of course Mo was towed most of the way if I recall. But interesting to contemplate.

Both Sahlman and Nyoak just ran ~1sec faster than their altitude conversions at BU today, just FYI for those doubting the calculator. Is it perfect? Probably not, but it's in the ballpark.

And 3:24.5 for El Guerrouj.
1.5 at the highest end in my thinking. Does Mechaaal seem to be the most efficient, light-footed like El G? Nope.

So they ran faster in a well-raced race with competition than a glorified time trial?
Based on the BU result a couple months ago and now this, it’s fair to say Nico is due for another big break. The most obvious is a title. I do hope he can manage to snag at least one.
I do think people are right the 3:48 conversion is pretty generous. Something tells me Nico is more like a 3:52 guy. Still, I wonder how competitive he might be at the trials 5000 this summer?
Luis G. has tried to break 4 several times in Flag since turning Pro... The fact that Nico just smashed it, Does bode well for a crazy fast 5k (especially given Nico's wiring). Who's gonna be the first NCAA guy to dip under 13? It's coming quite soon!
GORP was spot on with this assessment. Also, interesting to note that Nico's 12:57 has a 1274 score from World Athletics. You'd need to run a 3:49.18 to score 1274 for the mile.. also pretty close to his altitude converted mile time of 3:48.71.

Indoor points especially in the 5k are insane. 13:30 indoor = 13:16 outdoor by the conversion
