We like to have one thread per topic so we merged a 2nd thread that was started after this one into this one. The 2nd thread had the title of "Boston Mayor accidentally sends out invite for an "Electeds of color"-only holiday party to all Boston city councilors"
I go to many large work-related holiday parties every year, and as a black person would love a space to celebrate without a high probability of being exposed to racism.
My white friends don't share this interest, because they haven't experienced violent and oppressive racism throughout their lives.
It's cute: this thread shows exactly why these spaces are needed. (As does the LR board on a regular basis.)
Statistically, you're more likely to be a victim of violent crime from a fellow black person... MUCH more likely.
If you think the above fact is uncomfortable or "racist," then we should advocate for a color-blind society. If you want a race-conscious society, you won't like the result.
As one Black Man said while being interviewed during the George Floyd riots, all Blacks really want is for Black Men to be just as safe in a White Neighborhood as White Men are in a Black Neighborhood.
I remember when Democrats instituted slavery in the south and then Jim Crow later on.... I remember when Democrats started the KKK and I remember when Democrats opposed the Civil Rights act of 1964.
I thought we were over all of this Democrat racism...
Only to find out the Democrat Mayor of Boston is engaging in more segregation.
Why can't we just judge people on the quality of their character?
Isn't what the Mayor is doing FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY/FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION? ar ight that is in the Constitution and Bill of Rights?
Why do Blacks and Whites and every other group, get along great with all their Teammates on Little League, High School, and College get along Great with all their teammates, yet Politicians don't in fact they seem to want to put everyone against everyone based on race as if by design. ALL Politicians should learn what E PLURUBUS UNUM means (Out of Many One) I doubt the Players on the Michigan, Washington, Alabama, Texas teams are not squabling based on race, I bet no members of those teams have ever been excluded from Team Parties, My guess is players of different races get invited to church by teammates, It is almost like Teammates are more united than politicians. When I was on Teams no one was ever excluded based on race.
God will judge the contents of people’s hearts and minds not the color of their skin.
Acts 17:31 KJV
For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”

God will judge this No Whites holiday party very harshly. Mayor Wu will rue the day she sent out the invitations excluding whitey. In the afterlife, I mean. Here on earth, she will probably have a great holiday office party with no racist white supremacists messing up the festivities.

Some photos of the No Whites party in the link below. As predicted here, the POCs in attendance all look happy and safe so this may have worked out for the best. That said, I'm not sure how close they were checking genes, because one guy way back on the right looks pretty white to me.
The Mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu posted a photo of an "electeds of color" holiday party despite the event being blasted for excluding white city council members.

Don't kid yourself on people's interests. Your white friends cherish the times they can get away from you when you go off one of your harangues.
Truthfully, I keep things harangue-free around white people (except for my white wife).
Most white people I know are great, but a small minority are viciously racist while also too sensitive to hear these things.

I call BS on this. If there's actual racism at a holiday party (of course, not the 'white man bad' woke type) the person would be fired
If you think that every instance of racism at a holiday party in 2023 will lead to a firing, you are supremely out of touch with the world.
Your ignorance makes a good case for these safe spaces. Well done!

I have an honest question for you. If you are experiencing racism at these work events, why not file an EEOC complaint?
There are laws in place and a system set up to deal with racial discrimination in the workplace.
Good grief.
1. Because there is a world of racist speech and acts that are not amenable to most formal processes, including EEOC complaints.
2. Because the benefits of complaint processes are also less than the harms that can follow process, to both that complainant and the perpetrator. I have no interest in causing HR trouble for my colleagues, especially as I don't see this as a "legal" issue and have never seen this "system" bring about positive results. (Although the option is important in many cases.) As an adult, I prefer to speak directly to people, and I find this works very well. I just wish it weren't necessary.
Any other questions flowing from your lack of experience with racism?

First, we are talking about plans for a single workplace holiday party in Boston. It's unclear why you are bringing in your shallow interpretations of data on violence.
In any case, your statement is of course true -- in segregated areas of the US, which describes most of the country. Rates of violence are, obviously, higher in impoverished areas (which, due to systemic racism, are for the most part majority PoC). Your statement is like saying that people living in California are a higher risk of violence from Californians than New Yorkers, as if that proves something about Californian tendency toward violence.
Interestingly, and unsurprisingly, this "fact" simply isn't the case in integrated areas. Which is exactly the point. Risk of violence is driven by poverty, not blackness. Ask Appalachia what race is perpetrating the most violent crime.
Personally, in all of the (thankfully few) times I have been physically attacked by strangers, including shoves on the street or food thrown at me in a park, it was by white people shouting racial epithets.
As one Black Man said while being interviewed during the George Floyd riots, all Blacks really want is for Black Men to be just as safe in a White Neighborhood as White Men are in a Black Neighborhood.
Boston is full of racist education institutions and governmental officials... even the BAA is racist. Seems to be the necessary evolution of a city saturated with 'education', 'medical industry', and 'tech'. Who is surprised?
Nobody claimed it was a constitutional violation. It’s not a constitutional violation to walk up to someone and call them an a**hole to their face, but that doesn’t mean you can’t stick up for yourself.
It is a constitutional violation, though. It's a government sanctioned party therefore it violates the 14th amendment of the federal constitution as well as federal and state laws and probably the constitution of Massachusetts.
I think the rest of us should start asking ourselves “who cares?” Look, if someone doesn’t want me at their party because my skin is the wrong color, I don’t want to be at that party anyway.
