One thing to be said about FootLocker, the conditions in San Diego are typically always, without fail, consistent and beautiful; so there is at least that for comparing times..
Which is why it is interesting that Engelhardt turned down an NXN invite last year to run Foot Locker, but then this year she decided to do NXN instead.
SoCal native Englehardt seems like she would do better in sunny San Diego than in rainy Portland.
I thought Englehardt would struggle today, but I didn't think that she would finished more than a minute back. Wow!
I’m at the chicken joint and not watching, but Weldon tells me that Dathan Ritzenhein‘s daughter is about to win. The question I have, “ is she wearing Nikes?” I read on a thread yesterday that she often races in Nikes. Can someone confirm? Also, does anyone know if Nike gives everyone free racing spikes for this meet?
Colorado and Utah should each be their own regions. It is more defensible than California or NY having their own regions. 4th SW boys team ahead of all other regions 2nd. SW girls sweep the rest of the nation. Nobody paying attention should be surprised.
Forsyth and Leachman may be getting carried away. They are going out very fast for a muddy course.
looks to me like leachman is going to keep getting more and more carried away all the way to the finish
Leachman obviously couldn't keep up 16 low 5k pace on a cold day on a muddy course. No high school girl in history could have run 16 low on this course today.
Normally in the girls race, its a question of which NY team will win and which two other will be close behind.
This year, the southwest is absolutely dominating the rest of the field.
It's not so much the SW as it is 2 mountain states: CO and UT really dominated this year's meet for boys and girls. Who said altitude doesn't matter?
It's not altitude. It's coaching. Herriman was completely irrelevant until Doug Soles showed up 18 months ago. There are a ton of well-coached programs in both states.
Genetics is a factor. Another Ritz champ. Plus what are there 4 Bybees are on Lone Peak?

Not sure what Leachman was thinking.
She wasn't thinking at all, I suspect
This is championship mindset though and while it was a bit reckless, it's also a clear sign she's not afraid to risk it all for the win
2nd place and 50th place are prob the same thing in her mind
Gianna Rahmer obviously doesn't mind mud, and she's very smart and paced the race well. She was in 19th place at the 2k split, and slowly worked her way up to 6th.

From the start, Sadie looked tight. She wanted to get out front early, but her face looked strained and running form wasn't relaxed, even as she was in second place.

when you weigh about 75 lbs that's always gonna be a big advantage on a muddy course
Sadie E. being taller than most of the field will naturally also be heavier and suffer a bit more in the mud
but also for a runner like Sadie who is so used to winning or fighting for the win, once that potential to win has slipped away the motivation to keep going 100% wanes rapidly
