I'm closing this whole thread to new posts. It's served its purpose and I don't know what else can be said on the matter.
I must state though that many of the posts in this thread, particularly the ones praising Mike Smith while ripping Dave Smith disgust me.
Those posters are basically saying, "If you recruit foreign athletes that are white, you are a high integrity person like Mike Smith, but if you recruit foreign athletes that are black, then you are shady and don't deserve respect."
Take your racism somewhere else.
The reality is Mike Smith trotted out a women's team yesterday with four transfers on it including three of who were from outside the US. He was doing everything he could to win that race just like Dave in the men's race.
Take your moral preening/racism somewhere else.

In the interview OSU's 7th runner said he knew 2 days ago he was racing. Clearly Dave didn't want to let NAU know that Sh*tsama was racing, he wanted it to be a surprise to Mike Smith. Sh*tsama didn't race at regionals and ran poorly at Big 12s, so maybe Mike was thinking he wasn't fit.
Dave said all of his guys could be top 30 or 230th. Clearly he was downplaying his team so he could catch NAU off guard.
You clowns are just looking for any reason to discredit what OSU has achieved.

-6x bonus per all American on the men's side
- bonus for team title
-3x bonus per All American on the women's side
- bonus for women's team title
for a power 5 school, that's easily >$200k in bonus alone
The haters will complain, but with NIL the rules are different now. Kids in every sport are recruiting from every country more and more. In football, transfer portal is more active than ever. In basketball, kids from Europe are coming over much more. It's not a problem w/ NCAA XC. Dave's a winner and knows how to play within a system.

It’s the beginning of a new era. With unlimited money lining the pockets of the big schools, expect the rest of the NCAA to follow the Dave Smith model. The Kenyan cross country championships will be the shopping ground for NCAA coaches. Expect multiple teams to score around 50 pts or less and for their top 5 to be saturated with African talent. It’s just a new era. If you don’t pack your roster with African talent you will become obsolete. Many schools have had 2 or 3 Africans at the most but not since UTEP in the 80s had we seen 5 of the top 7 be Africans. Dave Smith congrats on showing the NCAA the way of the future!

Stanford did that with American runners who the program developed over time. They didn’t take shortcuts by bringing in foreign imports who were the team’s best runners as soon as they arrived on campus!

OSU program obviously decided they needed to do this to beat NAU and they did. At this stage I'm waiting to see what impact this will have on other programs going forward and if many of them will try to do the same to stay competitive. This has happened in college tennis where 80 - 90 % of players are from overseas on a full scholarship. And I have seen chilling effect on US high school players as they increasingly feel that their only option is to walk on
