Having said that, I want to note that I think people are missing the single biggest advantage Jakob had in running 4:43.13 vs. El Guerrouj’s 4:44.79: he was chasing a 4:44.79 WR instead of a 4:47.88 WR. Of course the goal, expectations and pacing targets are going to be higher for Jakob; El Guerrouj smashed the WR by over 3 seconds, and who knows if he could have run 2 seconds faster if he needed to in order to break the WR.
I don't think it quite work this way....at least not to the extent you think. Jakob broke Komen's 2 mile WR by 4.51 seconds!! 7:58.61 to 7:54.10 is a quantum leap. Is it fair to retrospectively say Jakob can run 7:51 if Komen's record was 7:52 instead of 7:58?
That’s not what he’s saying because 4:47 and 7:58 are not comparable. 4:47 2k is probably equal to 8:02-8:04 2 mile. 7:58 is clearly a better time , gebrasalassie tried to break that record twice and failed. You’re comparing 4:47 to 7:52 of all things. Why ?
He is also juiced to the gills. And still lost the last 3 world championship 1500 finals.
Loool, yeah he sucks so much. Soon 23 and only have two WC golds in the 1500. Good, but not great, just like El G's 2000 pr.
He's missed 3 chances of winning the WC 1500. How many did El G win? Jakob will only get golds in the WC 1500 when he is able to beat the "next guy" - which that arrogant prat can't seem to do when the occasion requires it. Nothing is a given in sports.

To be the greatest miler ever Jakob doesn't need to win a 1500m WC. Bear in mind that he is already the Olympic champion. He needs to run faster than 3'26"00 in 1500m and faster than 3'43"13 in mile. Just then he could become the GOAT. No WC needed.

"He is good, not great" - correct?
1500m: Olympic champ, 2 silvers at the WC
5000m: 2 times World champion
fastest ever in the 2000m and 2 Miles - by some margin
4th fastes ever in the 1500m
still 22 years old
But he is just "good" - correct? Because he is not winning any race.
What are guys like Wightman, Kerr, Kejelcha... - just hobby joggers?
IMHO he’ll need to break them by a decent amount because we KNOW he has advantages. We can only speculate that El G had some advantages.
Same goes for the 5k, which it seems like he will break by a good amount if this mile quest doesn’t kill him. I am of the opinion that he could break the 5k whenever he wants, and I think he is too.

jakob would be the "best" ever, but maybe not the "greatest" ever.
hicham el has so many all-time entries for fast times under 3:29.
it's not just a matter of doing something "once" (in this case a world record), but also the quantity and consistency of high performance (in this case # of sub-3:29s).

The best win championship titles. He can't be the greatest miler ever when he keeps losing to the "next guy" in world championship finals. He knows that - which is why he keeps coming up with excuses when he is beaten. Only his fans buy it.

The "great" runners won the biggest titles as well as breaking the records. He has been repeatedly beaten in world championship 1500 events - his speciality - and hasn't broken either the 1500 or mile records. As a miler he therefore isn't one of the greats - even doped, as he is. He may never be one of the true greats over the distance.

Only the Olympics matter. How many more Olympic golds has El G or anyone won vs Jakob?

I would really give him #3 all time in the 1500 at least. Convicted dopers don't get to be included in this

It isn't only the Olympics that matter. If that were so no one would be concerned with any race but once every 4 years. That isn't how he or his competitors feel about it.

Only thing is that's how 95% of the world feels about it. And Jakob has been most passionate about the Olympics. The athletes have some concern about the WCs but the will or care to win the WCs is 1/10th vs Olympics.

El G won the 1500 and the 5k at the same Olympics. That's twice as many Olympic golds as Jakob has won. Then there's Coe, who won the Olympic 1500 twice. There is a list of 1500/milers with more achievements than Jakob - runners who held the wr while also winning at the Olympics, like Elliott, Snell and Walker.
