Doshi and Shetty go 1&2. No one else on the team was close.
The NP transfers who were on SOP earlier this season were their 6th and 7th finishers today (though Fletcher ran 16:00 at Clovis).
Well, all those magic powers ascribed to their high school and wealth and so on have vanished with the departure of the Brosnans and what do you know but they're no longer a national power. Still, they are pretty good and have a good foundation to continue to be good on this league level with 5 of the top 6 in the girls jv and 4/5 in the boys jv race. No team in my own hs league in Northern California ever came close to averaging 15:30s, which is about what the boys did this time. They're a damn sight from their 14:30s or better ability in the past but they're still better than the vast majority of teams in the country--just not high NXN level. That league is no joke.

You know what else vanished when Brosnan left? The talented kids coming into the program.
Look at the comparison of the the talent that was on the team (based on middle school 1600 times of the top kids) on this year's team compared with Brosnan's time at the helm. Which team would you guess would be better? There is no way the 2023 team would be expected to be as good as the 2019 team with that talent discrepancy. Never mind the luck of having the Youngs and Sahlmans; the other kids on that 2019 were REALLY good before they came to NP as well. Who couldn't dominate with that team?
2023 1 – didn’t run youth 2 – 5:00 3- 5:37 4- 4:51 5- didn’t run youth 6 – 5:04 7 – 4:56 8- didn’t run youth 9- 5:34 10- didn't run youth

Add the Youngs and Sahlmans to this year’s team and they would be just as good as ever.
I know you love the Braz man, but do you know anything about the feeder programs in their area? During Brosnan’s time, ALL of the top kids in the greater area went to NP (somewhat suspiciously). Now, back to normal, they are spread out among the other schools in the area.

First off these numbers are wrong. Let’s start with their number one guy - Dev Doshi, he ran well under 5 his 7th grade year.
second, the times are slow because all the juniors and seniors had Covid years and didn’t get to run the last two seasons of youth or barely run at all.
like all great programs once the coaches leave the program usually holds on to a year of being decent then you’ll see the team drop off the cliff. We are already seeing the girls fall off this cliff.

The new hire is terrible
Show me where Doshi ran under 5:00 as a 7th grader. Athletic.net shows 5:00.89 as his PR.
The senior class got shafted by COVID in middle school, but there is no way you can possibly claim the talent was the same on those 2 teams. You’re not being reasonable if you think there isn’t a massive talent difference.
No idea if the new coach is good or bad, but I’d be willing to bet the new coach with the 2019 would handily beat Brosnan with the current team.

Brosnan’s number one and two in 2019 never broke 5min in junior high. So these fast in junior HS times means nothing.
No one has done what Brosnan did with HS kids. Multiple sub 4min in the mile indoor and outdoor , 13:34, 3:39’s ( multiple) , miles 3:56, perfect scores in CIF, 8:44 is not a top 3200m time on those teams, so many national records on the boys and girls. Girls running 4:37, this lost is outright unbelievable. National records in 4xmile for girls and guys.
No one would have even thought it was possible to do what Brosnan got his HS teams to do. A compete legend in the sport.
Newbury Park is trying their best with a youth coach. I feel bad for this new guy. The parents have a petition going around to make sure he’s not hired in track because of the issues he’s causing. At the end of the day the man is trying his best. He just doesn’t understand training and dealing with parents. Unfortunately that’s a big part of HS.

Means nothing? So, having that list of kids on the 2019 isn't an advantage at all?
All of you coaches out there, would you like your chances if those kids showed up at your high school?
Having kids of that ability training together on a daily basis, pushing each other in workouts and races has as much to do with the their success as the coaching. But that's why all the Brosnan cult followers are up in arms about the "haters" giving him crap on the Letsrun. He makes it sounds like it was all him and he is the reason they were so successful. Coaching was a part of the equation, but it wasn't the main factor.

Beyond legend. I’m not sure we will ever see a coach and team like Newbury Park from 2019 to 2022 ever again.

This youth coach you guys are complaining about was the very guy coaching the feeder team of "incredibly talented" kids who went on to Newbury Park. When he got miracle results then, it was just the kids having talent; when he gets lesser results now, the kids aren't talented and no one could do it with this lack of talent, right? But as someone says above, 2020/2021 wreaked havoc on middle school track #'s, so it's much harder to judge.

Dude, you just proved the point. He coached both the 2019 team kids and the current kids as youth. He wasn’t a better coach when the 2019 kids were on his youth team than he was when the current NP kids were on his youth team, yet the 2019 kids were way better than the current kids. Strangely enough, the 2019 team, with better youth runners, was a better high school team than the current team, who weren’t nearly as good as youth. It’s wild how that works, isn’t it?
I would challenge anyone to find a high school team that has ever had the amount of kids with the youth times like the 2019 NP had.
Brosnan is the best HS coach is history and that’s fact. Many coaches get sub 5min kids. No one did that the Newberry kids did under Brosnan in US history.

Amen brother.
We lived and saw history with those Newberry coaches and athletes. No one has done it better. it’s time the haters take it in and realize they saw the greatest High School team ever. You don’t get that with just talent. It’s a combo of good athletes and prime coaching never seen before.
