I actually feel for Mu. I don’t think when she ran the 1:23 600 indoors and burst onto the scene that she thought she would live with all these expectations and pressure. After finishing and leaving the track immediately, it just confirms her head isn’t in it. Be interested to see how she responds in the final. She looks strong and unbeatable. So much talent.
How does being pissed about getting tripped in a WC semi final indicate that her head is not in it?
I have to say that Mu looked sort of miserable before the race and on the line, before any trip.
Mu looks like she would kill to be anywhere else. (Diffey claiming "she loves to compete" the other day, was an absurd thing to say).
I kind of get it. I've been running 50 years, never anything near that level, but area championships, and national masters, and more often than not my feeling before the races is "I wish I hadn't come, I wish I wasn't doing this.."
Two ways of handling anger - assuming it is - maybe the trip didn’t bother Mu at all.
Her emotions can either be a distraction to performance, or she can use that anger to get fired up for the final, like “I’m here, I’m defending champion, and I’m going to smoke you all again.”
Time to lobby Faith to run the 800 instead of adding the 10000.
It would be incredibly interesting.
I have no doubt in a DL event with pacing that she pulls a "Crammy" (surely some people here will get that reference) and an 800 vs any of these women. I think she is capable of running under 1.55 which I don't think this field is. That's not to say she wins this championship auto but having seen her power in the last laps of the 1500, if they were to go through in 58 in the final would you bet against her being able to close out in the low 57's? I wouldn't.
She closed her 1500 this week in 56.5, so hard to imagine there’s a plausible first lap that would break her where she can’t compete to the line in any 800. She’s also a racing genius, she would easily master the tactics and positioning. Sure, she will probably move up someday soon and dominate the 10, but that’s sort of boring. Faith v Mu v Keely (v Moraa) in a championship 800! Now that’s compelling theater. If she does a 800-5000 triple it would eclipse the Hassan 1500-10 triple I think. I have no idea if such a thing is remotely possible in Paris.
Holy Moley, that was some wild drama in all 3 heats.
-Nia gets badly boxed, looks like she might be in real trouble, and then busts outside, powers down, and sets *another* freaking PR.
She was like a 2:02 girl not too long ago; now she looks like a legit contender. How low can she go? 1:57 looks very plausible.
-Reekie runs like she's asleep, gets stuck behind everybody, DFL with like 120 to go and a look of utter panic on her face (reminded me of Robby A at Rio), then weaves brilliantly through the whole Goddamn field, and cruises through with a 'What the f*** did I just do?' expression.
That was some vintage Nick Willis sh*t right there. Wow.
-Then Athing. Holy Jesus. I seriously thought she had quit the race when the turned completely sideways there. Then steadily, smoothly, cooly makes it all up, and *still* runs a 58.
I felt like we're not really sure what kind of 800 shape she was in this year, since, ya know, she hasn't run any freaking races, and hasn't broken 58, but I think those doubts just got erased. If she ran a controlled 58 in *that* race, you sure as hell have to figure she's in 56 shape.
Have to think she's still the fave, though Keely and maybe Moraa could probably challenge, and Reekie and Nia might not be that far back.

She looked ready to murder someone, lol. The final is going to be like that indoor NCAA championship where she lost the 400 and then came out and destroyed everyone in the 4x4. She needs to get out front early and stay out front though.
The intelligent among us are observing the behavior of you sheep as you condemn Mu and then weeks later praise her. It really is a spectacle to behold.

My first thought when she exited that quickly was that she was going for treatment. I'm hoping she didn't strain something.
Back in the states watching on tv and thus I'll immediaely have to start criticisizing.
1) How painful is it to listen to the sprint commentators try to analyze the 800 which they don't understand?
2) Watching field events on tv may be better than in person but why don't Trey or Paul react when Rojas clearly went pas the #1 mark. There is a reason why it's marked on the screen - react to it. The long delay between the jump and the mark just kills the buzz when it's obvious what has happened.

Did you see her facial expressions before the start? If she wouldn’t have been tripped up, I am not sure she would stuck around and stayed on the track regardless . You can tell she doesn’t want to be there. There’s nothing wrong with that - to be on the biggest platform at this level reminds me of the pressure Simone Biles felt. I just hope she does win the final because I can only imagine the toll the loss would take on her.
