I dont question his sincerity on the whole. And if his "dry throat" and "a little fever" statements aren't true, then they really aren't diabolical, well-schemed lies. They are, if so, merely excuses, said in passing, by an understandably dissapointed and frustrated young athlete.
Either way, it is a bad move to nuance another's win (or an emerging rival's near win) by immediately pulling the sick card - dry throat or not. If he was stoic enough to keep his ailments to himself prior to competing, he should be stoic enough to do so in defeat. Top athletes, like all mortals, have off days for a plethora of reasons. He's the best runner in that field on the whole, clearly! But it's cultish to think that he has to be sick to finish second in a world championship.
