Broskis, it's hard to win a championship 1500. Especially now with the depth of talent in the event. Any strategy a favorite can pick has pitfalls, and it's not unusual at all for the favorite to lose.
Jakob said after the race: "I felt that my legs were not very good today. Very bad timing, I think. I felt in the warm-up for the semi-final that my throat was a little dry. I don't feel like my body was 100 percent and after the first 200 meter in today's race I felt I was not 100 percent. "I had no chance. I had nothing to offer. It's a bit of bad luck on timing. I have been in good form this year. And then when it comes down to it, I fail"
He was also asked about if the feeling was similar like last year WC 1500, and say "No, last year I was the best in the field and should have won, but I made big tactical errors. Today, I was not the best one in the field".
If he did say that it's nice to hear the honesty. In the English language clip he sounded a little salty (understandable). Kid has a huge target on his back and Kerr was in the shape of his life so took his shot. Delighted for Kerr but hoping to see Jakob back to his best.. the world needs a cocky Jakob, it's too entertaining!
you telling me thats coincidence? he just happens to be off at every 1500m final and yet still can manage sub 3:30 each time? thats bullhokey. its just his excuses. remember after the eugene loss there were reports he had tendonitis or something? he just throws out these excuses of being ill or partially injured or not in shape
no he just has issues racing without a pacemaker which is exactly how he won the olympic 1500m gold - cheriyut pacemakered for him.

Do you think he is on his best when he is 2.5 seconds away from his SB set in a race where he was not close to the pacemakers?

Jakob won gold in Tokyo in the same way Kerr won gold yesterday.

A championship final is not a time-trial. If he cannot win a competitive race he is not the "best", whether or not he has the fastest pr.

Then Kerr is the better runner. Just as Wightman was.

There’s no sense in comparing yesterday’s race with the Silesia Diamond League. One was a time trial set up for him and the other was a championship final where he split 58.1 for the second 400 and 53.7 for the last 400. Obviously doesn’t mean he’s 2.5 seconds off his best form!
Jakob has the slowest 800 pr amongst every one of his WC finals competitors. ... There are more 3:29 guys now than there used to be a couple years ago and they are all faster than Jakob. Just like after last year's WC, he has to reassess his strengths and obvious weaknesses and perhaps with a little hubris, at least acknowledge that he can't win a footrace with someone who's almost as fit but faster than you. ...you must cook them before that point. Using tactics that beat TimC won't work against a strong Wightman or Kerr. ...or the surging Naguse, Laros, or Nordas.

Yup, Kerr was the strongest runner today, despite being slower than his Tokyo Olympics, and running on the outside of lane 1 into lane 2? on three corners. JI only ran wide on the first corner, and that was partly due to starting out in lane 7; he really didn't make any serious mistakes compared to the previous WC where he accelerated multiple times to fight off surges from the Kenyans. He just didn't have it today, you could see it in his face and body language. He knew it, and at least he did not employ the sad tactic of drifting out into lane 2 or 3 to force Kerr to run wide. Maybe he just raced a bit too much this year and as a result went past his peak. Katir ran like crap in the 15 heats and so far has bounced back for the 5, JI is only 22 and good chance he recovers for the 5 final, unless he really is overtrained.
Nordas got the most out out his talent, stealing JI's tactic of staying out of trouble at the back and running in lane 1. Nuguse was underwhelming, spending a lot of time in lane 2, even lane 3 according to Dan O'Brian's live comments. At least Hocker PBd, hard to ask for much more than that.
