that was a pretty good start for Lyles, and he pulled away from the field homestretch but he didn’t have his otherworldly finish today (not that he needs to right now)
Syd looks like she has bulked up too much. I wonder if she has been working too much in the weight room. Or maybe her strength routine has been too enhanced.
Sydney is a little heavier this year, but she was really thin last year, so I wouldn't worry about a few more pounds.
But I think this points to Kersee wanting her to run the 400 flat at Worlds, not the hurdles. Kersee wants Sydney to have more sprint strength and she doesn't need as much flexibility this year as she did last year.
Unless Sydney really botches the 400 at USA's (which I don't think she will) Sydney is running the 400 flat at Worlds.
Well hats off to SML, she ran a smarter race today.
The 400 is such a strange race, it sucks. She still seems to be learning how to pace it, and how to achieve flat sprint speed.
Unlike Boling, this was very promising imo👍
Interesting how Sydney thinks that the flat 400 is more challenging to race than the 400h, because there aren't any exact markers for her to go by. It's more of a feel race for her.

Yeah, a lot of 400 hurdlers have trouble pacing the 400 and Sydney hasn't run it competitively in a while. I recall last year Femke Bol said that running the 400m flat required a completely different stride pattern and judgment of effort
Sydney already said in the YouTube video covering the Paris DL she knows how to run the 400mh to run 51s, 52s, or 53s. She can win again this year with her eyes closed.
I feel like she's trying to get reps in for the 400m next year, I think she'll race it at the Olympics but not in Budapest.

I think the exact opposite. I think Bobby Kersee wants Sydney to run the flat 400 at Worlds this year, in order to set up an attempt at winning both the 400 and 400h at next year's Olympics.

Have Kersee/SML said they anything about a 400/400h double? They'd have to be insane to think it's possible in 2024, there's just too many rounds and too little recovery time to run well in both. Britton Wilson was head and shoulders about the rest of the NCAA field and look how that went for her.
She'd need Juantorena's Soviet Bloc drug regimen, and even then my money's on the field.

Too thin? Are you new to this sport? Also, I recall her looking about the same at the beginning of last season.

Kersee and Sydney have both said that doubling at a global championship in the 400/400h is something that they would consider. (They weren't talking about 2024 specifically, but just about global championships in general.)
Britton Wilson tried to do the 400/400h double 25 minutes apart. That's a totally different thing than doing it on different days. You know that.
In 2024, the 400 and 400h never have a race on the same day. It's 6 days straight, one race per day.
The first 2 rounds of the 400h are a joke for Sydney. She's so far ahead of everyone else in the 400h that the first 2 rounds of the 400h she can take it easy. Same thing with the first round of the 400.
So that's really only 3 tough races in 6 days. (400h final, and the 400 semi and final.)
I think that the worst case scenario is 400h gold and a bronze in the 400. And that worst case scenario would still make Sydney the first person ever to medal in both of those events at the same Olympics.
I think that there is no way Kersee can resist giving the double a shot at next year's Olympics.
